It’s always interesting to be in sunny places in the winter, and this week Barcelona has had lovely weather. There aren’t too many bridges in Barcelona, but one made a lot of people smile when they heard how the HP Operations Bridge is clearly taking cost our of IT and helping people keep businesses agile.
What’s the Barcelona connection? Well this week HP Discover is occurring in Barcelona, and I’ve seen thousands of people here. Many are in our Business Services Management sessions and visiting our booths to see the software at work. But it’s when our customers stand up and talk about their journey and the benefits they have reaped, that I saw those smiles. And they were smiling too because they’ve reduced costs by hundreds of thousands of dollars, increased operational efficiencies by over 75%, and gained other benefits too.
Do you know what and Operations Bridge really is? Actually it’s a term defined in the ITIL definitions, which we use at HP to describe a solution that creates a collaborate team of diverse IT Operations specialists. Using a single pane of glass, this solution filters events and exposes key KPIs in a set of tailored dashboards that can be accessed from Mobile devices very easily. Furthermore, it includes automation, so when new instances of servers, operating systems, even composite applications are introduced, the Operations Bridge automatically deploys those well known, best practices based monitoring templates your experts defined, to those new instances.
Gone are the days of business services being hurried into production with the promise from IT that they will implement later. The experts responsible for those new business services, even have a self-service portal to set the parameters of monitoring to suit the deployment, without ever needing to know which tools is used for monitoring and how it is configured.
Another reason those customers are smiling.
The Operations Bridge also includes Big Data Platform monitoring using the same methods mentioned, extremely important as Big Data platforms start to become mission critical to serve new business needs.
Yet another reason.
Practically everybody’s IT Tool set includes some form of reporting tool, home grown or integrated. But the HP Operations Bridge uses a common dynamic model to ensure that when you design a report on a key business or IT service, ALL the data from the right IT components supporting is included. Thanks to this approach, the reports always include the right data, even when changes occur in IT configurations, and of course they always will.
Yet another reason
One customer’s #HPBSM Operations Bridge incorporates the means to get predictive. He explained a great story where his IT Operations team uses the Operations Bridge to learn metrics behaviour using statistical analysis. They actually did this using some business metrics. One week they saw a decrease in a particular customer’s business, every day lasting several hours per day. After a few days they consulted the account manager who discussed with the customer and found out there was an election that week, and thus access to business services was disallowed. Simple, but the customer in question was delighted to see that his service provider was able to report on their usage of the services.
Yet another reason.
No wonder that these customers were happy to talk about their BSM Journey and how the Operations Bridge is a vital part of their IT Operations today
Of course the nice December weather helped them to smile even more.
