Re: an excellent resource replaced by worst - docs.hp.com vs. BSC

Even the contribution of documents is not consistent, for example the EVA folks publish their documents (commandview EVA) on software.hp.com packed as an ISO!

However, I have another concern.

If you look at the hp-ux 11.31 general section:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodClas...

there are maybe 100 documents now.

In 2 or 3 years there are maybe 400 or 500 or even more links on that page!

How should a poor user find a particular document?

Normally I don't know the exact title I'm looking for, but I know I want (for example) find anything about LVM version 2.2 administration or the LATEST fibre channel driver release notes or the LATEST DRD guide etc ... almost impossible to find among these UNSORTED hundreds of documents.

I also cannot understand why some release notes are in "gernal reference" section, some in "getting started", some in "user guide" ... etc - does this make any sense?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: an excellent resource replaced by worst - docs.hp.com vs. BSC

YEAHHH,

With my DEC background, (after ICL) I have come to value, and later take for granted, the Digital style of documenting.
Compaq showed some glitches, which in retrospect was the sign on the wall that "granted" is not the same as "guaranteed".
Sadly, HP continued that downhill walk.
Moving from NewHampshire to Bangalore seemed to steepen the slope, but this new "style" of documenting might as well be presented as "cryptografy for the advanced".
Consider newbees that do not have most "ingrained" and use documentation for reference, but need it to find their way!

Too bad, really sad.

Proost.

I would tend to add the ITRC forum migration to this list ...

Yes, it seems there were some lessons they could have learned about about google and URLs.

But be glad there are no fancy avatars/emoticons on the BSC replacement.  ;-)

Agree to all postings best described by Title of this Thread....

I mean, go to: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi and simply choose in Section (middle Field) for example HP-UX 11.22.

Is that so hard? SImple good cgi script and one can really use reliable www based Manpage...User-friendly and intuitive, and fast.

Second that opinion about fast disconnects when logged in.... i have been thrown from every page (Support, Busines, wherer i have to use this Single Sign On), so that i am mostly afraid to change to other page or do some other things, but i would appreciate when at least someone step out and says: "This is Security Measure".

It took me long but i decided to post here, since i am HP Customer (as most of us here are) and expect that we will be heard.

This is the wrong board if you want to discuss the current EBC forum.  Post it here:

Re: an excellent resource replaced by worst - docs.hp.com vs. BSC

Blame it on Google all day - but - I'm trying really hard to implement NNMi 9.10 and there are so many issues - and no resources. I've opened seven calls so far, none of which were resolved by HP(no surprise there) - and do a simple search on, well, anything - and I can't find it. For example - you see the box up there that says search for... well, put in NNMi - and ya know what you get? One irrelevant post.  So now I have to go through my hundreds of hundreds of bookmarks to find the page I got to last time that had at least some sort of info.

And P.S. that statement below - that this is the wrong forum(wasn't said to me but...) - I have NO IDEA what forum this is...I clicked on an NNMi link I got from Google and ended up here, again. And such a wonderful URL too - easy to remember(HAHAHA).

You can search using google by adding "site:h30499.www3.hp.com" to the rest of the words.

>you see the box up there that says search for... well, put in NNMi - and ya know what you get?

To search the forum, you must specify the scope, so change "Board" above to "Community" to widen the search.

Search FAQ:

So you are the one that got them to "improve" the ITRC replacement (EBC) and time out after an hour!  ;-)
