xw9400: do I have the correct memory modules?

so i wanted to upgrade the memory in one of my xw9400's and i purchased a couple

Corsair Value Select 4GB DDR2 SDRAM Memory Module

(4GB 2 x 2GB - 667MHz DDR2-667/PC2-5300 - DDR2 SDRAM - 240-pin DIMM - MPN: VS4GBKIT667D2)

I tried 16gb and just received 5 beeps, I took the rest out and then just tried 2 modules along for a total of 4GB and I got the same 5 error beeps..

Am i using the correct ram?

Re: xw9400: do I have the correct memory modules?

Here is the www.crucial.com page for your machine.   http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=xw9400   I would compare what you have to the similar Crucial module and if the specs are a lot differeent I would go fot the Crucial.

Re: xw9400: do I have the correct memory modules?

Are you putting the RAM in the correct slots? They should be in the four slots on the right hand side, locations 1 and 3, for a total of four DIMMs. The next pair would go in the slots labeled 5. See the diagram on the inside of the removable side panel.

Re: xw9400: do I have the correct memory modules?

Actually, where you install the RAM depends on whether or not you have 1 or 2 processors installed. Check the diagram as mentioned above.
