Server 2003 can be successfully installed on the xw4600.
First get your hard drives configured into which ever RAID configuration you wish using CTRL+I from the Intel RAID BIOS configuration screen.
Next, in order to install server 2003 on the xw4600 using the integrated Intel RAID controller, you need to download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver files (see link below) used to preinstall the RAID driver and copy them to a floppy.
With the computer powered off, plug a usb floppy drive into the xw4600 and then boot from the Server 2003 CD. Press F6 during the initial setup of 2003 when prompted.
The driver you want to choose from the floppy is:
Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller
Load this driver and you are all set.
The only other drivers I needed after Server 2003 completed were the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet driver and the HD Audio driver available from HP's site. Just use the XP Pro drivers.
You can find the Intel driver here:
You want to choose the Floppy Configuration Utility.
Officially Server 2003 is not supported on the xw4600 but this particular workstation makes for a great little server.
