xw4300 and CPU upgrades (LGA775 socket)

Hello ppl,

We have a few HP xw4300 workstations (as well as one xw4200 and one xw4400) in our company and since it's been a couple years now I was thinking about upgrading them with stronger/faster CPUs. I was wondering if they (read: MB chipset and BIOS) can accommodate dual core chips (e.g. Core 2 Duo socket 775).

I cannot find anywhere in support HP materials information on this particular HP board compatibility with LGA775 socket based CPU family. I looked through user guides, manuals and latest BIOS release notes (cannot find older ones though).

All i know is those xw4300 workstations came with either 32-bit Pentium 4 HT processor or 64-bit Pentium D (e.g. CPU model 840). xw4200 were all Pentium 4 and the one xw4400 we have runs Core 2 Duo (E8600) chip. all have same CPU sockets, similar MotherBoards, chipset, etc.

Does anyone have any (not necessarily official) knowledge on possible CPU upgradability of xw4200 / xw4300 / xw4400 motherboard lines? thanks!

Re: xw4300 and CPU upgrades (LGA775 socket)

Thank you zhanqqr.cn
This answer i was looking for. in particular i wasn't sure about xw4300 and this this part:
"Intel Pentium D processor 940 (3.20 GHz/2 MB, 800 FSB, Dual Core)
Intel Pentium D processor 950 (3.40 GHz/2 MB, 800 FSB, Dual Core)
Intel Pentium D processor 960 (3.60 GHz/2 MB, 800 FSB, Dual Core)"

as a few datasheets that i finally found too and contacted HP support about the issue, but they were not aware of that particular part of information (crucial for CPU upgrade!!) either.

Anyways, as a proof a few more links that state the same in case someone (like me before in the process of digging the info) gets confused:

Re: xw4300 and CPU upgrades (LGA775 socket)

also to clarify all of info i posted. i made a mistake in initial post and where it says:
"the one xw4400 we have runs Core 2 Duo (E8600) chip"

it should be:
"the one xw4400 we have runs Core 2 Duo (E6300) chip"
