XW4400 Bios 2.06a

[ Edited ]

We have about 10 xw4400 workstations here. Most have bios 2.06 on them. I was upgrading one of the boxes to 64 bit XP when I noticed it had bios 2.03 on it. I went to hp support and found that the latest version of Bios was 2.05. What happened here? Is there a problem with 2.06 and HP just defaulted back to 2.05? Do I need to remove 2.06 and replace with 2.05 on all my other workstations? What do?

Re: XW4400 Bios 2.06a

Is there any particular problem or reason to upgrade the BIOS? Unless there is a specific issue that is covered by an errata upgrade, I generally leave things alone.

The reason for upgrading the bios is because the cooling fan will go wide open and stay there. It makes a lot of noise and irritates all the engineers. The later bios fixes that.

Re: XW4400 Bios 2.06a

Did a little research here with the HP support staff on site, and it turns out that 2.06 had an error in it that required all this site's 4400s to be downgraded to 2.05. And it looks like sp42912 (the 2.06 bios) has been removed from all the sites I usually download from.

Can you find out what that error pertained to?

Found that Bios 2.07 gave us issues with Floppy disks, some stating that they weren't formatted, write protected etc. Downgraded to 2.05 and floppies were ok again. Was looking to find 2.06, but luckily I came across this post which states that also had a different issue so will stick with 2.05

Cheers
