Raid Configuration and Performance

[ Edited ]

Perhaps someone can clarify the value of Raid 0, Striped Disk Array using a single disk controller.

In HP's Mini Whitepaper, "HP Workstations Raid Primer" (Doc.: c00786213.pdf), it states, "Using RAID 0 has potential for improved performance especially if drives are on different controllers."

My XW8600 has three HDs and one Optical drive hanging off the SATA controller. Will I gain any performance improvement in this case?

Alternately, would an improvement truly be realized using the SCSI drive controller for two Raid 0 drives?
