Internal LTO2 448 for XW4600

Hi,

I'm trying to determine whether I can plug an internal LTO in my XW4600 or not.

I think I can by using a SAS card to plug a SAS LTO, but I'd like to be said if it is possible or not and if not, what solution exists.

Thanks to all!

Thierry...

I can only speak for myself, but to get the widest and best response from those of us that *might* be able to help or suggest an alternative approach, it's best to describe what it is that you really wish to accomplish with your desired configuration. It is also wise to not use abbreviations which may be slang or unfamiliar to some, or which may have only a localized meaning peculiar to a country or region.

You should also describe your operating system and any other system-related facts that may impact the preferred solution or suggestions.

Re: Internal LTO2 448 for XW4600

Well, OK, here are more details:
I've got a workstation XW4600 and I need a ULTRIUM 448 tape on it.
I'd like to know if I can use an internal SAS version of the Ultrium and what Host Bus Adapter I'll need to plug it in.
I've been told I can use an external ultrium with an adaptec scsi card, but I'd prefer a solution based on an internal tape. I cannot believe there are no parts available at HPs to solve this tiny problem!
Thanks for your help.

Re: Internal LTO2 448 for XW4600

The LSI 304E SAS card has 4 internal SAS ports. According to xw4600 website, the product number is EH417AA. If you have a PCIe slot available, this should work with the DW085A Ultrium 448 Tape Drive (assuming you have a 5.25 inch optical bay available.) You may also need to buy a SAS cable to go between the HBA and the drive.

Re: Internal LTO2 448 for XW4600

For what it's worth, the Maintenance and Service Guide for the xw8200 *says* that although the computer supports 16GB of RAM for Linux systems, it is limited to 4GB for Windows systems. Now, this was pre-Vista (xw8200 is vintage 2004) but not pre-XP 64-bit, or at least I don't think it was. Why they would draw that distinction, I don't know. Perhaps the memory re-mapping was only intended for Linux OS applications, and never for 64-bit Windows applications? Again, I don't know, but it's probably safe to say that the xw8200 was not designed with a Vista 64-bit OS in mind.

Having said that, were you hoping to add more RAM, or are you just trying to squeeze out the last of the 4GB?
