Can you tell me the specifications (volts & Amps) of the mains adapter that was originally supplied with this laptop.

One extra question: I may be a bit thick here, but as the battery is only rated at 11v, why does the 19v charger not cook the battery ??

You do need some over voltage just to charge the battery.
As to how much is too much, it depends on the battery and how smart the charger is.
