Compaq IJ200 Inkjet Printer and Win XP

I just installed windows XP on a Compaq Deskpro - I have an old Compaq Ij200 Inkjet printer - that I cannot find the driver disks for.

When I go to retrieve driver info from Compaq or other sites, they say will work for Windows 95 and 98 - no mention of 2000 or XP

Does anyone know if I can try to use the old drivers for Win 95/98 or should I just get anothe inkjet printer.

Thanks in Advance

Re: Compaq IJ200 Inkjet Printer and Win XP

Al If that old Compaq/Lexmark is compatible w/WIN XP the drivers will be on the OS package itself. Very basic drivers if they exist.

Your other idea seems the better choice and perhaps you might review this site:

www.fixyourownprinter.com

You won't get a replacement suggestion but if an archive search of a model you are considering shows trouble...well you just drop that one. You might review the deskjet forum here also...for clues.

Most now agree that a sub $100 printer is not a wise choice...in any make. They have short warranty and low capacity (albeit expensive) cartridges as well.

Good luck!

Thanks Rudy - XP did not have any drivers when it attemped to install and prompted for a CD.

I think I am going to purchase a new printer.

Re: Compaq IJ200 Inkjet Printer and Win XP

This model from HP has a good performance record:

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/ho/WF06b/18972-236251-236261-14438-f25-83026-86859-88632.html

Try a google search and a glance at Ebay for a new (not refurbed) unit.

Expensive...not really. This one will last a while and the cartridges are high capacity.
