HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

As a general question in maintenance,

Is it possible to update a Thin Client bios (5740e or 510 thinclients for reference) utilising HP Device Manager existing infrastructure?

Many thanks.

Re: HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

HPDM supports automatic BIOS updates when imaging devices where required. For example when imaging the t5740e thin client, the BIOS will be updated to v1.04 to ensure that the device will support WES7 SP1.

Re: HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

Yes, you can. You can use "_File and Registry" template to update Bios.

First, you add a "Copy File" task to download the Bios update programm to the target Thinclient.

Then, you add  a "Command" task to excute the programm.

But  I suggest that you'd better do this work on one thin client  firstly to test it.

Re: HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

I had to do the following to get a HPDM to silently bios flash a t510:

  1. modify the rflash script to use absolute paths instead of relative on line 7 and 19
  2. deploy files to thin
  3. chmod +x rflash and lflash on thin
  4. use absolute paths in command to execute and pipe "yes" to answer question

If you copied LFlash to /tmp/, and wanted to install latest bios, presumably this would work for step 4:

yes | sudo /tmp/LFlash/./rflash -k bb /tmp/LFlash/786R115.ROM

Of course test first and use at your own risk.

Re: HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

Thanks acdcs-ck that worked great!

From HP Device Manager: run a template sequence.

1: copy files "lflash/*  /tmp"

2: command "chmod  +x  /tmp/rflash /tmp/lflash"  (set wait to yes)

command "yes | /tmp/rflash -k bb /tmp/786R9105.ROM" (set wait to yes)

3: reboot

Thanks

Re: HPDM: Thin Client BIOS updates

[ Edited ]

For WES, the command will be somthing like

:---------------------------------------------------

Rem update BIOS using utility

CD %0\..\

%0\..\AFUWIN.exe %0\..\786R9105.ROM /P /B /N /R /C /l2 /Q

Echo "Done"

:---------------------------------------------------

I hope this helps.

Trick: /Q is for quiet. this is required. There is a switch for reboot. DONT USE!. Let HPDM do the reboot. HPDM gets confused if a product install does a reboot.
