Upgrading Memory in Pavilion 8765C

I am trying to upgrade my memory to 512 mb by adding two 256 mb sticks of Kingston PC133 DIMM sdram. I am running Windows XP.

When I boot into system setup it recognizes that there are 256 mb's of ram in both location 1 and 2, but the system will not boot up. It just keeps looping back to the HP screen and will not load XP.

If I remove 1 of the sticks of RAM, it runs just fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Upgrading Memory in Pavilion 8765C

You are correct, system specs allow 512mb total (2 x 256).

Did you buy both of those Kingston PC133 sticks new..same lot, etc? It sounds like they are not compatable with each other.

Supposedly they are to bus down to PC100 as shown here on the crucial page where both PC100 and PC133 are available in the 256mb:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=HP%2BPavilion+8700+Series&mfr=HP&cat=RA...

Is it possible for you to test the pair in another PC? How about a return exchange w/supplier? Get two from the same lot and make sure you once again have a 100% exchange policy going.

The above referenced supplier, while not the lowest price around (and not the highest either) guarantees that their product will work.
I do not need to know everything. I just need to know where to go to get the information.

Get memtest86

http://www.memtest86.com/

and see if the test will run with both sticks in there.
