Pavilion 8570c 256 RAM problem

my computer came with 96MB of RAM. My BIOS states that I have 3 open slots for future upgrades (as well as the HP site). I can only spot 2 RAM slots on my motherboard. I had a 64 piece and a 32 piece. I took both out and put in 2-128s. when I start up, the computer detected only 128 and then gave me a windows error message with some VXD file. After putting the old RAM back, everything worked fine. Finally, I tried a 128 and a 64 and now I'm up to 192. The RAM is not defective because I tested them both. Can anyone help?

Re: Pavilion 8570c 256 RAM problem

What date/rev is your BIOS? There is a new one dated 7/13/99 rev 1.14.

If you have an earlier model you might try it:

Re: Pavilion 8570c 256 RAM problem

the RAM timing is right, they are both either 70ns or 60ns.. I don't know which, but they are both the same. My BIOS is up to date also. any other suggestions?

Re: Pavilion 8570c 256 RAM problem

I am having the same problem with my Pavilion 8570c. I added two 128MB RAM sticks and my computer would not boot properly. I noticed during startup that when the BIOS counted up memory it stops counting at 202MB. I believe there is a limitation in the BIOS that is preventing our PC's from seeing 256MB RAM. I also have BIOS 1.14 on my Pavilion. Perhaps we will see a BIOS upgrade soon.
