OMG HELP MY FAN IS DYING

my HP Pavilion 8756c has been making a really weird noise lately... the regular high pitched noise changes to a low pitched hum.. i believe my fan is dying.. if i smack my computer a few times it goes back to normal but i dont want to do this a lot because i may damage something.. someone please help me! either tell me what to do or tell me where to get a new fan!

Re: OMG HELP MY FAN IS DYING

http://partsinfo.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&model=P2976A&HP_model=P2976A&modname=Pavil...

is what you need if you want the official HP part. (If the link doesn't work then go to http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/product.jhtml?lc=en&pagetype=hppavilion25728 and click on parts info and select fan and it will come up.) $26 plus probably some S&H. However, it's usually a lot cheaper and faster just to buy a generic fan - toss the new heatsink that comes with it and just replace the fan. Four screws and maybe you have to cut and twist and tape the wires together and you are done. Look for one with ball bearings. They last longer. About $10.

Look inside first so you will know what it looks like just in case it is some nonstandard size which I doubt.

Re: OMG HELP MY FAN IS DYING

The HP site I gave you says your fan is

Delta model ASB0812HH

The Delta site:

http://www.aboveboardelectronics.com/delta/product/dcfan/afb8025.htm

shows it's a 12 volt fan turning 3250 RPM and providing 37 CFM with dimensions of 80x80x25 mm

This is a sleeve fan and not a ball bearing one so that's why it failed so soon.

http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:UBBdh3ABVe8C:www.icrontic.com/mm/Articles/FanGuide/Sorted_Data_...|lang_de&ie=UTF-8

says it puts out 34 dBA so it's a bit on the noisy side.
