Floppy drive for Pavilion 7920

Is the floppy drive for this machine proprietary to the point that a generic drive will not work on the machine?

My floppy failed (verified on another machine) and the replacement I put in (Works on another machine) will not read disks although the Pavilion recognizes the drive.

Outside of the face plate arrangement is there something else built to prvent using a generic drive on an HP?

Double check the power and ide connections to the fdd? Thats an oddball problem, i was pretty sure that floppy drives were all standard. You know, plug and play and all that jazz.

Power is good. The drive I put in works on another computer I have.

Try putting your HP floppy in another machine. It might work, but it sure would be ugly.
