we dont need to install that s/w
basically its iso image we need to boot notbook / pc through that image,
and then it will list out all administrator account and ask to select account to change password,

I guess I can download it to my PC and burn
a CD? Is that how it works? Or do you need
to actually get the program.
All I want is some old email addresses from it.
I'd be in someone's debt.

Yes you need to download it and burn into cd.
but if dont care about OS and your worry is only for DATA then we have another solusion too..
remove hdd from this pc and connect it through usb casing which can use as a usb hdd.
plug it to any working system and copy all data, best luck,
