Using BCVs (EMC Symmetrix) and backing up the HP3000

We are doing a split on the NT Workstation using TimeFinder software. After the split is successful it automatically does a vsopen on the volume set. Intermittenly, not all the volume sets open. 6 out of 10 in one and 0 out of 2 in the second volume set. This results in a reboot on the HP3000 967. After the reboot, all the volumes are mounted correctly. We are currently checking the FW SCSI revisions, they must be 3636. Someone also said to mount the members first, then the masters, we will try this on Friday. Please let me know if you need anymore information, please let me know.

Thanks for all your help,
Joe T.

Joseph,

Although I don't have an answer for you, I would like to recommend you post your question to emc@interex.org. That group has both HP and EMC engineers on it. I apologize that I cannot do anything more than this.

We are having the same probelm. But the only one that gets mounted on the 3000 is the master none of the members get mounted. they come up as loner.

Were you able to get any resolution on this?

Re: Fix for BCVs not mounting after a Split
We were using EMC's resolution, until my computer Operator discovered an easier fix.

The problem is that the disc drives are not in a ready state. The EMC solution will delete the drives and add them back into the system. So you will see the drives dismounting and mounting. The drives should mount correctly.
Fixed by Yosef Rosenblatt of EMC, implemented by Joe Torregrossa
If you have a HP3000 ask for Yosef, he's the guy. It EMC 6 months to find a excellent HP3000 resource.

After Splitting, this MUST be done on the Backup Server.

For Billing on The Backup Server:

Do a DSTAT ALL
If all drives do not mount try
VSOPEN MDP2_VOLUME_SET
DSTAT ALL - should be master/member

if that does not work (Emc Solution)

1. Do the VSCLOSE MDP2_VOLUME_SET;NOW
2. DSTAT ALL should now be in Loner, not there, offline
3. FOR BILLING: (delete and add drives)
STREAM BCVMDP2.UTIL.SYS (new)
This will dismount and mount volumes on the console.
4. DSTAT ALL should now be in Member/Master

if that does not work
Reboot the Backup Server

Let me know if this works or if I can be of any further assistance.
