Blog: Virtualization of IT resources: Is this the key to on-demand delivery?

To meet the demands of users in an Instant-On world, an IT infrastructure has to be built for agile service delivery. You need to be able to roll out new systems in a matter of days, scale up capacity on the fly, and continually rebalance workloads to meet SLAs and maintain application performance.

This points to the need for an on-demand service delivery environment that automates the provisioning and monitoring of applications and infrastructure. And that’s where virtualization comes in.  Server, storage and network virtualization are fundamental building blocks for this environment by separating applications, data and network connections from the underlying hardware. The creation of virtual resource pools of servers and storage with specific performance characteristics makes it quicker and easier to roll out new applications and to dynamically allocate resources to keep your applications humming.  Read more in this guest post by Patrick Eitenbichler, Virtualization of IT resources: Is this the key to on-demand delivery?
