Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Does UFT/QTP support Siebel's new Open UI (as of Siebel 8.1.1.9) or do you plan to add such support (by when)?

Thanks

dean

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Unfortunately, not a word about the Siebel Open UI in the official matrices. Thanks anyway!

I hope some HP-insider could at least give us a hint whether they are working on it.

The currently suported solution is based on IE's ActiveX support which Siebel has frozen to IE 8.

As of IE 9 it is over with Siebel's High/Standard Interactivity and we are/will be left with the

Open UI (which also supports other browsers).

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

My HP Passport registration was sufficient to open KM438391. However, there are still no news there regarding Open UI support. I personally have not (yet) come across any other tool claiming the specific support for this particular Siebel GUI variation. I believe you can as well use any other good Web testing tool to practically achieve the same (bad) results. They all see the GUI as "plain" web objects and provide as much standard support as they can. You will have to solve plenty of problems regarding object identification and you will have to handcraft any other solution for "special" objects. It is by far not impossible to test Siebl Open GUI. But it is rather painful and hard to do. And you cannot simply convert your old tests to work with it. At least not to my knowledge.

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Hi Folks,

Has anyone got success in automating Siebel Open UI?

Does QTP support automating Siebel UI? Or any other tools?

Please share your experiences/suggestions.

Thanks,

Anil

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Hello,

No, neither QTP nor UFT so far provide support for Open UI technology.

There is an ER for this and you could register to recieve notifications about it: http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/LID/QCCR1J31119

However, according to UFT dev., Open UI is basically html5 controls, for which UFT provides some support in it's basic web addin as of SP 3.

Regards,

Ana

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Thank you for the response Ana.

My Client does not give Contarct Identifier (SAID)...so, I can not access the link whay you have posted. Can you clarify the below queries,

  • What's an ER is? Enhancement Request or something else?
  • When can we expect the support to Open UI technology be available? any ETA?
  • Are there any customers you know who has automated Open UI using UFT/QTP?

Thanks,

Anil

Re: Support for Siebel Open UI (8.1.1.9)

Just a short addition to Anna's comment regarding "basic Web" add in.

We have discovered that if the "good old" Siebel AddIn is enabled (instead of basic Web Addin) on Siebel Open UI, then important Siebel attributes such as "reporitoryname" get exposed as HTML attributes for most of Siebel's simple objects like edit fields, check boxes, etc. Complex Siebel widgets such as list applets as still problematic and require lots of ugly hand-crafted code but the "simple" part works fine which is quite a lot.

Cheers, dean
