Re: Error updating tape drive firmware.

Hi,
The firmware update is failing because you are trying to upgrade with the wrong firmware. The S63D firmware is for HP branded drives. Your drive does not have HP branded firmware so the new firmware is getting rejected. If your drive is an HP branded drive then please contact HP support to resolve the matter.

Re: Error updating tape drive firmware.

Thank you for your answer.

I want to understand why on the screenshot below, in the column "selectable" I had yes for this firmware before updating.

I'll try to ask HP support for a firmware for my tape drive.

Re: Error updating tape drive firmware.

Please let me to raise this topic back again.

Couple of days ago, my HP StorageWorks 1x8 G2 Tape Autoloader LTO-3HP G2 started to show an error while writing a tape with Uranium Backup software:

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

Then i tried to use HP data protector express. It had written the tape, but it was still empty.

I googled and found that it is possibly hardware issue. Then i decided to update firmware on my device.

Library firmware update went well:

Now it shows the latest 4.20 firmware.

But the drive itself is not updating from C24W to C25W:

Error log shows next:

|__ Firmware update process log for device at path 3/0.1.0
|__ Firmware update started on device 3/0.1.0 (C24W:0x80090200/0x2c0e -> C25W:80090200/2c0e)

|__ update unsuccessful

I tried to update from the device from USB drive - unsuccessfull, invalid firmware error. I tried to update from web-interface, see the error:

The firmware file i am using is the one that HP Library and Tape Tools downloaded for me - LTO_920_C25W_MSL-G3-Series.frm

Then i dug into diagnostic tools of HP Library and Tape Tools and found this error:

0x1841 DI_POST_FAILED_DRAM_DATA_BUS (POST Failed DRAM Data Bus Test)

What could be wrong?
