Unable to install OMW 9.O on Win 7

I have OMW 8.16 in a VM server and all of our workstation is Win7.  I still have an XP and unable to upgrade to Win 7 as OMW 8.16 Console is not compatible to run.  I have seen some documentation that OMW 9. is compatible so I downloaded the Software_Operations_Manager_9.00_for_Windows_TC0901-15000.iso and tried to install the Remote console and fails.  The attach files states that the 2014.02.21 10:08:54.321 - EXCEPTION  : Message: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\HP\HP BTO Software\lbin\OvOW\ServerConsoleInstall\install.ini'.

Am I doing this wrong.  I am installing OMW 9.0 -- No OMW 8.16 as it also fails

Can someone help me?  I just needed a remote console of OMW for me to use so I can upgrade to Win7.

Thanks,

Teresa

Re: Unable to install OMW 9.O on Win 7

Hello

You would be able to install OMW 9.0 Remote Console on a Windows 7 system. I see that you have Windows 7 64 bit as well and so it should be okay. Just for sanity check can you reboot the Windows 7 system and try to install the Remote Console again and see if it works. Also if the RC installation is successful then do patch the Remote Console to same patch level as your OMW 8.1x server (note that patch number is not exactly same for one is 8.x and other is 9.0 but you have equivalent patches).

If the installation still fails then you may want to get in touch with HP support and ask their help on this issue.

Hope this helps and/or you get a better answer.

Regards

Ram

Re: Unable to install OMW 9.O on Win 7

It is failing as it is looking 'C:\Program Files\HP\HP BTO Software\lbin\OvOW\ServerConsoleInstall\install.ini'.and it is not there.  The OvOW folder is empty.

I'll ask Hp support for help then.

Thanks

Re: Unable to install OMW 9.O on Win 7

Hello

It may also be an issue of corrupt iso media. You may want to download OMW again and see if it that works. Or even try the same media you have on another machine and see if it works there.

Hope this helps.

Re: Unable to install OMW 9.O on Win 7

Hello,

Per provide log the used  version its:

2014.02.21 10:06:02.190 - INFORMATION: Logfile for HP Operations Manager 9.0 for Windows (IC22.0)

2014.02.21 10:06:02.190 - INFORMATION: Buildtime [11.08.2010,13:30]

Per SUMA(Support Matrix) there is the note that:

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM323488

OMW 8.16 plus OMW_00090 supports remote 64 bit MMC console if the remote 64 bit MMC console binaries are installed from the OMW 9 media kit. For this scenario the same 64 bit operating systems are supported for the MMC console as for OMW 9. Please be aware that the service map / hyperbolic tree is not available on consoles running a 64-bit OS. It is not supported to use the OMW 8.16 (plus OMW_00090) binaries on the remote 64 bit MMC console system.

More info is available in the OMW_00090 Release Notes on http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM1030202 -> chapter 'Remote Console Interoperability'.

The exception on the log:

2014.02.21 10:08:54.446 - EXCEPTION  : Data:

I have also seen the following lines in the detail log file HPOM_Foundation_Install_detail.txt:

2014.02.21 10:08:54.305 - INFORMATION: RegistryHelper.GetRegistryValue(HKLM, Software\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\ServerConsole, Version, None)

2014.02.21 10:08:54.305 - INFORMATION: Package with product code {1733F84A-6B89-4B97-9C4B-1C63CC9143F2} has install state INSTALLSTATE_DEFAULT

2014.02.21 10:08:54.305 - INFORMATION: Skipping package HP Operations Manager - Server and Console core components

2014.02.21 10:08:54.305 - INFORMATION: Package installation will be started - recording status message for rollback [Recorded]

2014.02.21 10:08:54.305 - INFORMATION: succeeded [Recorded]

So its neccessary to clean up the registry and remove the registration for this package manually. The registration was most probably a left over from an earlier installation attempt.

Please try the following steps to fix this problem:

1. OMWCleanUp.exe (The cleanup tool removes a working or broken HP Operations Manager for Windows installation from the system)

2. Open a command prompt and move to the following folder on the installation medium

=> OMW9.00_DVD\x64\Packages\FoundationCore\ServerConsole

Uninstall the package manually:

=> msiexec /x "HP Operations Manager Server and Console core components.msi"

3. Look for the registry entry as mentioned in 'Cause' ;

In this scenario "1733F84A-6B89-4B97-9C4B-1C63CC9143F2" found in the registry

=> Two keys have been found and removed: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\1733F84A-6B89-4B97-9C4B-1C63CC9143F2

and another one within the "Uninstall" hive.

After removing the registry key from both location, the OMW Remote Console installation should now complete successfully

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Carlos Pinto
