SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

I'm getting errors saying, for instance, httpd is down when it is not and when I test another process by bringing it down (for instance lpsched), I don't get a message.  I've tried changing polling intervals, loaded a hotfix that was supposed to fix it, restarting the agents...nothing is working.  Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

We are getting occasional  phantom (process not running ) monitoring events on hp-ux with OA 8.60 + OM 8.16 .

Occasionally the process is detected as not running event though ps -ef shows it has been running forever. This is always a one-off - monitor recovers on the next run.

We sorted this by creating an equivalent threshold monitor (using perl process info API) allowing us to ignore short-term spikes.

No other platforms seem to be affected for us (Linux, Windows, Solaris)

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

Thanks for the response...yeah I've done that too with the older version.  I didn't have many issues with the old version using the config files.  However, 9.1 and Infra2.0 doesn't provide that option anymore.  In any case, the new version is completely not working.  I'm not sure what to do and the documentation is pretty general about it.

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

Sure...OMU for HPUX is on an HP11.31 Itanium.  I'm setting up a POC so I only have 4 other servers I'm monitoring.  All 11.31 Itanium.  I've made sure that all nodes have Sevice Discovery and Configuration Discovery loaded.  The CD, by  the way, doesn't distribute the SI-Discovery.cfg on the management server...which is weird.  Manually building it doesn't work.  Although the same file works on other servers.  So that and the availability monitoring do not work so far.  Seems like Infra 2.0 is buggy.  I'm wonderiing if I should install an older version?

Thanks.

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

I had the same problem until I fully specified the exact name of the process, which I was told you don't need to do because it's supposed to work as if you are doing a ps -ef|grep ...  Unless I am misunderstanding what your issue is.

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

Thanks for the response...yeah I tried that as well.  I put the full path in and still had the issue.  Nothing in the System.txt.  It just shows down and it's not.

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

I'm noticing other anomolies, such as the SI-Discovery.cfg file not loading on the management server after deployment and not working on another server where it DID deploy.  Also, the OVPA not upgrading to the version that comes with the agent, and the opcservice not working even though deployment occurred for that as well.

Anybody else have these as well?

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

If this is the same issue I had, where IFSPI process monitors incorrectly report processes not running on 11.31, I resolved it with a hotfix from HP support.

The fix installed opcmona version 8.60.566 and contained these fixes:

PROBLEM       :
QCCR1A129127 opcmona aborts/hang while doing policy enable/disable or during reconfiguration
QCCR1A127901 opcmona aborts while loading OR unloading OR executing Infra SPI policies
QCCR1A127743 opcmona abort
QCCR1A126656 opcmona 100% CPU on all three servers after applying 11.01 patch
QCCR1A126373 opcmona incorrectly handles the policies having external scripts
QCCR1A125135 Process Monitor policies truncate the parameter field resulting in false alerts on Solaris Sparc/x86
QCCR1A125081 OMU 8.60.501 opcmona abort
QCCR1A124074 opcmona has a memory leak on Solaris agents
QCCR1A120672 OM Agent 8.60.501, Solaris 10, opcmona aborts with core
QCCR1A129086 opcmona aborts in monagt_duration_check

VERSION       :08.60.566
PATCH LEVEL   :08.60.501
OS VERSION    :

Manual installation steps for Unix:

1. Stop the agent
 ovc -kill
2. backup the binaries below
    <ovinstalldir>/lbin/eaagt/opcmona
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/libopc_r.so (Sol/AIX5.3/Lin x86)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/libopc_r.sl (HPUX PA)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/hpux32/libopc_r.so (HPUX IA)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib64/libopc_r.so (AIX6.1/Linx 64)
3. Replace the opcmona with the hotfix binary
    <ovinstalldir>/lbin/eaagt/opcmona
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/libopc_r.so (Sol/AIX5.3/Lin x86)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/libopc_r.sl (HPUX PA)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib/hpux32/libopc_r.so (HPUX IA)
    <ovinstalldir>/lib64/libopc_r.so (AIX6.1/Linx 64)
4. start the agent
 ovc -start

Re: SI-servicemonitors for Infra2.0 on OMU9.1 not working

I loaded one hot fix that HP graciously gave me during my demo time.  As soon as we get a license for this, I'll load this one.  Thanks for the info.
