Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi all ,

I am facing a problem and it is as below.

When I am sending a test_message from command line using opcmsg command, it is not displaying into JAvA GUI message browser.  I am using the below command to send the message.

/opt/OV/bin/opcmsg s=critical msg_g=OS n=10.94.145.53 a=mailwatcher.sh msg_t="Only 5% of entire disk space is still availavle" o=root

I checked the queue and the meessage is showing in the queue. I used the below command for testing it.

strings /var/opt/OV/share/tmp/OpC/mgmt_sv/msgmgrq

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi,

Have you tried using another test message that does not use the application "mailwatcher"?, such as:

# opcmsg a=a o=o msg_text="test"

also can you perform a a trace on the Management Server to see what is happening to the message.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi EdgardoFlores,

I tried with the opcmsg command which you have suggested. It is getting captured by Java GUI and the node is coming as local host as i ran the command the on the management server directly, but when I am specifying the node name in the opcmsg command, it is not getting captured. For any node it is not getting captured by Java GUI.

Also I checked with the management server node and the msg are getting received on it .Below is the trace message on managment server.

[root@localhost linux_poc]# /opt/OV/bin/opcmsg a=b msg_t="Only 5% of entire disk space is still availavle" o=root n=10.94.145.53

Why Java GUI is discarding all the message which are coming from different nodes other than management server?

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hello.

This has got nothing to do with Java GUI itself.  It's Message Manager that's discarding messages for unknown nodes.  As mentioned before, enable tracing for the 'opcmsgm' process to find out if it's true.  Alternatively, set the "OPC_LOG_DROPPED_MSGS" config variable and such messages are logged to the "System.txt" file.

This has been mentioned many times on this forum - messages are dropped if node the message is for is not known to the server, and never forwarded to the GUI processes if responsibility matrix foesn't enable them.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi Goran,

Thank you for your reply.

I enabled the OPC_LOG_DROPPED_MSGS trace and checked the system.txt file. Yes the message is coiming as

"0: ERR: Mon Oct 28 09:28:41 2013: opcmsgm (32200/47714467853280): [opcmsgm.c:10447]: Message '3b98dcf0-3f85-71e3-1777-0a5e91350000' discarded due to invalid source node '10.94.145.204'. (OpC40-648)"

Its is showing as the message is getting discarded due to invalid source node. But I am not getting why it is showing this node as a invlid source node.

I have added it from midas GUI browser as a "Node for external events" and then assign this node as "netdevices" node.

This node is having a control type "message allowed". Also I have made a entry for this node in /etc/hosts file.

All the fiewall is dissabled.

Am I missing any step ?

Please  help me on this step..

Regards-

prak

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

How does the entry for this external node look like?  'opcnode -list_nodes' and paste the section related to this node.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi Goran,

This is the ouput for the opcnode -list_nodes

[root@localhost ~]# /opt/OV/bin/OpC/utils/opcnode -list_nodes
List of all Nodes in the HPOM database:
====================================================================

Name = localhost.localdomain

Label = localhost
IP-Address = 127.0.0.1
Network Type = NETWORK_IP
Machine Type = MACH_BBC_LX26RPM_X64
Comm Type = COMM_BBC
DHCP enabled = no (0x22)

====================================================================

Name = 10.94.145.204
Label =
IP-Address = 10.94.145.204
Network Type = NETWORK_IP
Machine Type = MACH_BBC_OTHER_IP
Comm Type = COMM_BBC
DHCP enabled = no (0x22)

====================================================================
Name = 10.94.145.204
Label = 10.94.145.204
IP-Address = 0.0.0.0
Network Type = PATTERN_IP_ADDR
Machine Type = MACH_BBC_OTHER_IP
Comm Type = COMM_UNSPEC_COMM
DHCP enabled = no (0x22)

====================================================================
Operation successfully completed.

The two same nodes are coming because one is present in holding area and one is present in my custom hierarchy.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi.

The only thing that comes to mind is that your pattern is of type "PATTERN_IP_ADDR", while your message has '10.94.145.204' as node name.  So either try changing your pattern type to "PATTERN_IP_NAME" and check if that helps or enable tracing for the 'opcmsgm' process so we can see all the details of the message and see what to change.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi Goran,

But the "PATTERN_IP_ADDR"  is for the node which is in holding area. For the node which are in my costome hierarchy it has the tppe "Network Type = NETWORK_IP" .

Also

How can I enable the tracing for opcmsgm and change the pattern .

By enabling the tracing of opcmsgm do you mean the string in

/var/opt/OV/share/tmp/OpC/mgmt_sv/msgmgrq  path.

This is the output for the string /var/opt/OV/share/tmp/OpC/mgmt_sv/msgmgrq

[root@localhost ~]# strings /var/opt/OV/share/tmp/OpC/mgmt_sv/msgmgrq

I don't know how to change the pattern.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi.

It doesn't match either of those nodes.

You can use Admin UI to modify the node or use the 'opcnode' command to remove and add the node with new options.

How to enable tracing has been explained on this forum many times, can't anyone use search anymore?

This enables tracing (one long command, so put it on a single line - it will affect your trace settings if you are already tracing something else):

      ovconfchg -ovrg server -ns opc -set OPC_TRACE TRUE -set OPC_TRACE_AREA ALL,DEBUG -set OPC_TRC_PROCS opcmsgm -set OPC_DBG_PROCS opcmsgm -clear OPC_DBG_EXCLUDE_AREA

To disable it:

   ovconfchg -ovrg server -ns opc -clear OPC_TRACE -clear OPC_TRACE_AREA -clear OPC_TRC_PROCS -clear OPC_DBG_PROCS

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi Goran,

Thank you giving the command.

I ran the command and traced out the log message for the sending messaage for the particular node. In this case i use node having IP = 10.94.146.109.

The complete log can be seen at: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6587637/

I checked the log and the error displaying is

NAMESRV: No mapping found for 10.94.146.109

How can i resolve this issue...

Any Idea?

Thank You

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hello.

That would explain why it doesn't work.  Can your resolver resolve it?

This is for Linux/Solaris:

getent hosts 10.94.146.109

Generic test:

/opt/OV/bin/OpC/utils/opcsvnsl 10.94.146.109

In general adding such nodes to /etc/hosts should help, or add it to your DNS if you're using that.

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

Hi Goran,

Thank you responding.

I have already added these nodes in my /etc/hosts file.

Also I have seen in the forum that somebody has suggested to add these entry in /etc/opt/OV/share/conf/OpC/mgmt_sv/opc.hosts places.  I have done that too.

Here is the link http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Systems-Management-OpenView-OP/NAMESRV-No-mapping-found-for-x-x-x-x-DM-...

Regarding resolving by various commands, it is resolving the node successfully.

[root@localhost ~]# getent hosts 10.94.146.109
10.94.146.109 10.94.146.109

[root@localhost ~]# /opt/OV/bin/OpC/utils/opcsvnsl 10.94.146.109
10.94.146.109: 10.94.146.109

[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
10.94.145.204        10.94.145.204
10.94.145.34          10.94.145.34
10.94.146.109        10.94.146.109
[root@localhost ~]#
[root@localhost ~]#

Please help in finding the issue..

Thank You

Re: Not able to see the message in Java GUI browser in OMU 9.

In that case try restarting the opcmsgm process:

ovc -restart opcmsgm

And as there have been some bugs in this area, please upgrade to a more recent patch. You are wasting a lot of time on old issues that have been fixed a long time ago.
