No tickets due to duplicate

Dear Folks,

We are not getting new tickets in SM for alerts duplicated in OVO. New alerts are just appending to old same type.

It has been auto stooped , we did nothing but restart of SM services.

OMU8.35

HP-UX 11iv2

oracle 10g

Thanks,

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

I'm not getting exactly what you are asking ..

As far as I understand , only duplicate alerts are not getting ticketed in SM , New alerts are ticketing in SM .. is that right ??

If yes , then , only the New alerts will get log in SM  , duplicate alerts wont get logged in SM ( Unless it is configured so ) ..

I'm sorry I didn't address properly , it would be great if you elaborate you issue..

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hi Vidyasagar,

You got it correct.
Only duplicate alerts are not getting ticketed in SM , New alerts are ticketing in SM
Before that there was no concept of duplicate in OV (however it must be there)

We required the older configuration where no duplicate happened and each alert consider as new , it is because if some ticket get created two days ago then no new ticket is created which lead to skip of issue.

It has started only three days back and we did not made any (not single) change in system. We just restarted our complete OV application.
We are facing issue of down of opcmsgm every hour, due to insufficient memory and down of opcmgm on mgmt server, from last 10 days and reason should be because OV is getting 5k alerts per day which is almost double of last month.

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

[ Edited ]

Hmmm , I have never worked on OMU/OML ..

But still I try to give some pointers :

New alerts are getting duplicated which you dont want , if any duplicate alert arrives your OM should it to treat as new alert  rather than considering it as duplicate , right ??

> I heard in OMU there is an option which enables/disables the duplicate messages ( May be Server Configuration ) , may be you need to check there ..

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

I guess , the option which I suggested will not consider any alert as a duplicate , you may receive hell number of alerts due to this , make sure , is this the one you are looking for ?? and then go ahead !!

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hello.

I can't possibly speculate why it would start now - it's your system, you should have a better insight into what's going on with it.

As far as I am aware, "scito" is a tool that's using OMU API-s to do its job. You should check its logs for any clues as to what's going on. I can only help with OMU side of it, but not with "scito" itself.

OMU sends duplicate messages to applications using MSI by default (note however that this can be disabled, so ensure OPC_SUPPRESS_DUPL_AFTER_MSI is not set to FALSE).

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hi Vidyasagar,

You are correct, it might also lead to problem but we will use and sort column in Java console accordingly.

Hi Goran,

Please let me know how to set it to true/false and check the status of same.
This is our production and can not do testing.

Thanks

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hello.

Sure, it just means the default is used so that's not the problem. Like I said you should look at "scito" side of things to find out what's going on.

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hi,

But duplication is happening for every alert in OV. That is why tickets are not generating in SM, so we required to stop this duplication only and each alert should be marked as fresh.

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Just give a try on the "duplicate messages" option under the Server Config ..

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

[ Edited ]

I don't have know exactly in OMU as I don't have that setup.. But I'm sure it will come under the "Actions -> Server -> Some NameSpace -> Enable/Disable duplicate messages" ..

The option which I suggested will not consider any alert as a duplicate , you may receive hell number of alerts due to this , make sure , is this the one you are looking for ?? and then go ahead !!

Hope this helps you..

Re: No tickets due to duplicate

Hello Piku,

You have a very old version of OMU and that unfortunately doesn't have a command line tool to check and set suppress duplicates, yet. You will need to use the Motif administrator GUI (Actions->Server->Configure...) to change it.

If I remember correctly, SCITO can be configured either way. You can either use the OM Trouble Ticket Interface or the MSI (Message Stream Interface) to get messages into SC.

If the Trouble Ticket Interface is used, setting this config setting to TRUE may help:

# ovconfchg -ovrg server -ns opc -set OPC_TT_WHEN_DUPLICATE TRUE

Keyword     : OPC_TT_WHEN_DUPLICATE
Description : Pass messages to trouble ticket although they are duplicates
of other messages. See also OPC_NOTIF_WHEN_DUPLICATE.
Type/Unit   : string
Default     : FALSE
Documented  :
Since Rel.  : A.06.09
Used In     : opcsvinfo (<=OVO7); namespace: opc (>=OVO8)
Search-Keys : suppression of duplicate messages; troubleticket

But it's strange that it used to work and suddenly doesn't anymore.

Best regards,

Tobias
