Is there a way to set a default SMTP Host system on HP3000 system? How do I set a permanet system variable?

Re: mail.pub.sys MAILSMTPHOST -> host

Are you referring to running Sendmail/iX on a 3000? Or NetMail/3000? Or Email Inc's SMTP/X? or Telamon's command line client? or something else?

Re: mail.pub.sys MAILSMTPHOST -> host

So you're using Telamon's free command line email client. Randy Medd who wrote that isn't with Telamon (which has changed hands a couple times since then) and I don't know if the program will look for any permanent config file or not.

Since you can't set "permanent" environment variables on the 3000, the best you can do is an option logon UDC that sets the variable. Even .profiles won't work since the Telamon client is an MPE app and I doubt your job streams utilize the posix shell to run it.

Still, adding it to a system level option-logon command in a UDC should work if all you need is an environment variable available to all jobs/sessions.

Re: mail.pub.sys MAILSMTPHOST -> host

Another way, would be to rename the mail progy to mailxx

then create a command file to do a
setvar mailsmtphos,"xxxxxxxxx"
run mailxxx

Catalog this file at a sytem level and you have an easy to maintain solution.

Re: mail.pub.sys MAILSMTPHOST -> host

Thanks.

We have a script that snaps our new SMTP email relay server into any stream that uses the mail command.

-h smtp2

Thanks for your response.
