Ioconfig shows ( protected group ) message..

Hi all, I'm sure somebody can help me out quickly with this, I tried searching but no luck.
Came across something with a new client I haven't seen before.. there is a protect on the system config group when I go into ioconfig or sysgen and it won't let me save any changes, I don't see any password on the group so I'm not sure where that protect is put on..
I thought it might be veaudit, or mpex, but MPE see it when I start the ioconfig program, so I am not sure.

Any help would be appreciated..

thanks
Ron

Re: Ioconfig shows ( protected group ) message..

If you are logged as any one OTHER than manager.sys, you will see this.
Why did anyone invent unix?

Re: Ioconfig shows ( protected group ) message..

Actually, looks like all the files say Security is on , PROTECTED when I do an mpex listf,4 ..
permissions say 'for MANAGER.SYS READ , EXECUTE , LOCK '

and no ACD's ..

Re: Ioconfig shows ( protected group ) message..

Ron,

does the error message reference the group BOOTUP.SYS in any way?

If so, the root cause is that the system has last been started with a START [RECOVERY] instead of START NORECOVERY. This uses a special (and protected) config group instead of the regular CONFIG.SYS group.

In SYSGEN, you should be able to use KEEP XYZ to save your changes to a dedicated group XYZ. You might want to compare SYSGEN and SYSGEN with BASEGROUP CONFIG to see what changes might have been done between the last START and START NORECOVERY.

IOCONFIG does not work with BOOTUP.SYS active.

Lars.

Re: Ioconfig shows ( protected group ) message..

Hi Lars,
Yes, it does refer to the group BOOTUP.SYS
It says The basegroup = BOOTUP, a protected group. Any configurations change ..etc.etc..If any changes are to be permanent use SYSGEN to swith basegroup, then reboot with "norecovery" option and specify the new basegroup..

Think you've nailed it on the head.

Problem now is, nobody wants the system to be re-booted, this only came up as it crashed from a memory issue.
