How to restore the hpunix OS from ignite backup

Hi,
I am looking for the procedure to restore the OS from network ignite backup.
The archive is stored in ignite server itself in compressed format.

Please let me know how to do the restoration.

thanks!!

Shalom sanwin,

It does depend how the backup was made how you restore. Hardware type is also a factor.

If make_tape_recovery was used to make the backup you can boot the system off the tape. The procedure however is vastly different, IA-64 Itanium versus PA-RISC chip set.

model command would be helpful in getting you more specific help.

Note the system if it lacks a tape drive can be booted of an Ignite server.

Tell me how the backup was made and the hardware type and I can be very specific in providing help.

Re: How to restore the hpunix OS from ignite backup

If your server is PA-RISC then
1.Reboot the server(client)
2.interrupt the boot process
3.bo lan.ip_address_of_server install
4.install
5.select the srchive
6.go

If this is Itanium

1.go to EFI SHELL
2.edit the bbot option
3.add boot lan.ip install
4quit
5.use this boot option to boot
6.select archive...
7.go

for itanium the server /etc/bootptab should contain the mac address of client
