Look out Barcelona...here comes Education!

HP Discover, Barcelona, December 10-12, Barcelona is soon upon us. We thought it’d be fun to introduce you to some of the Education team you might meet at the event. As well as talking about ‘must-see’ education sessions and what we’ll be doing at the show, the team also suggests where to hang out in this fabulous city.

What do I love about HP Discover? It’s the buzz; it feels like a small city, a hive of activity. Everyone’s open to sharing ideas too and it’s that chance to learn from each other that makes Discover a great place to visit.

On the subject of sharing ideas, I’ll be running a joint presentation with EVRY about how it trained 10,000 people in HP IT Service Manager. Come and join us if you can – EVRY will explain how it enabled its people quickly using HP ART, while also reducing deployment times and costs.

Event info: We’re on at midday Thursday, December 12 in session BB1795 in the Software Services Zone’s demo theater. It’ll be busy so sign up early. For more on all sessions at HP see here.

Where to visit

Away from the event I love to visit some of Gaudi’s work. This amazing architect was the leader of Catalan Modernism and his Gothic creations include the Sagrada Familia and Casa Vicens. And if you’ve time pop over to the beautiful village of Sitges – the paella there’s to die for.

Here are my top 3 things to do:

1.     Question us: There’s a lot of HP expertise crammed in at Discover – especially around the Guru Bar in the Software Services Zone. Here our professional services, education and support teams will give you succinct and clear guidance around any questions. Best of all – it’s free.

2.     Certification matters: Susan Merriman is leading an open discussion forum with our HP ExpertOne team on software certification. Sign up or Drop in to hear about the skills your guys need to be high performers, how to create a productive team, and fostering innovation.

3.     Hear what EVRY has to say: I’m planning to drop into Jeanette’s session with EVRY(see above). Training a large number of users – and updating their skills – can appear challenging. EVRY did it quickly and easily and they’ve some great tips on how they did it.

Out and about

For me, no visit to Barca is complete without calling in to Els 4 Gats where Picasso, among others, used to hang out. And for great music and a great night, head to Bar El Mariachi. It’s a little tucked away but is a wonderfully authentic venue.

From my chats with customers I think this Discover is going to be a lot about the cloud. Our teams in the Guru Bar can answer any questions you have around the cloud such as:

  • Hybrid strategies
  • Your deployment options
  • Training your people
  • Improving levels of automation to get to results quickly
  • Certification to optimize deployments

Call in to the HP Cloud demo area. Here you’ll find some smart simulations telling how the cloud can impact your overall business.

Book into a workshop

We’re running some expert workshops around areas that are very hot with customers right now, including:

  • Cloud
  • Agile development
  • Service integration management
  • IT management and strategy

 A wow moment

Two other things I’d urge you to do: first, take a look at HP ART. We speak a lot about how this tool makes it much easier to train lots of people quickly. But see it and you’ll have a ‘wow’ moment. Second, chat to our teams: our experts can make a real difference with fresh perspectives to help move your team forward and tackle any tricky issues.

Out and about

I love Barca and I’d say simply go to Las Ramblas to get an infusion of energy from this vibrant area.

And last but not least, myself…

I’d make time to take in the keynotes. Our leadership team will be speaking around the New Era of IT and how the cloud, mobile, and the consumerization of IT will change things for us all. And, of course, as a ‘Software person’ I’d see George Kadifa’s speech. George leads our division and always offers great foresight on the direction of our software business. I’d also recommend 3 more things:

1.     Small group discussions: I’m running a couple of workshops on why certification is important to your business and how to best enable your people. There are only 12 people in each one – so we can directly address any questions you have. As the group is small please book early so you don’t miss out. Check out the catalogue using codes DF1856 and DF1829.

2.     3D magic: I encourage you to call in to the Discover Zone to see how HP Autonomy: Aurasma turns static print images into dynamic moving and 3D objects – this stuff is seriously cool.

3.     Let your hair down: The famed Discover party takes place on Wednesday evening – the food and entertainment will parade the best that Europe has to offer. It’s always a lot of fun and I hope to see you there.

A taste of Barcelona

I enjoy a good meal and recommend one of TripAdvisor’s favourites, the 7 Portes (7 doors). The food’s priced well, tastes great and the atmosphere’s always lively.
