I am currently using the Server Automation Client v7.86 on Windows 7. When trying to open a remote terminal on any of the managed server, the following error shows up:
'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Press the Enter key to close this window
The setting for Terminal Client (under Tools -> Options -> Terminal and Shell) is:
cmd /c start /w cmd /c "(telnet %h %p || echo > nul) && echo %m && pause > nul"
The SSH Client setting is blank.
The terminal window did open up on Windows XP. Do these settings need to be changed for Windows 7?

Recommend you install putty on your desktop...
From the SA user guide..
You are not required to use telnet as the terminal application. For example, you could use
putty, the free Windows application that supports SSH, rlogin and telnet. To use a putty
client, you could specify the following command:
"C:\\Program Files\\putty\\putty.exe" -telnet %h %p

@FrankS, i am not allowed to view the content of the KM.
Could you explain what is the solution if it exists?
Telnet and putty don't work on my Windows 7 computer, the window open but nothing happen. Any idea?

This is a known issue and will be fixed in a future patch. (As of this writing, the fix appears to be available in SA 9.06 and 9.13.)
As a workaround, follow these steps:
1. Open the HP Server Automation GUI
2. Navigate to Tools -> Options -> Terminal and Shell
3. Change the RDP Client string from:
4. Save your changes.
Please test RDP sessions again, and make sure it works.
- C:\windows\sysnative\mtsc is not a physical file/application, but in fact an alias in the Windows System to the proper RDP.
- This workaround is available in Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it working for Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP you must install a Microsoft hotfix on your desktop. See the following URL for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942589
