"Viewer" access able to check-out / check-in an asset in ALM?

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

Need your advice here.

I just noticed that although I granted a user "Viewer" access (the one that defaultly comes along with QC), the user is able to checkout and checkin an asset. (e.g. test script, test plan, etc)

I went into Project Configuration > Groups and Permissions > Permissions to check. All options are unchecked, but I noticed there is no option for check in / check out activities, so means there is no control.

I think this is not correct. Can you all confirm if this is a QC bug ?? Or I miss out anything ??

Thanks.

Just to add - my expectation is Viewer can't change anything which includes check-out / check-in activity.

Re: "Viewer" access able to check-out / check-in an asset in ALM?

Viewer should actually have no access to make any changes in QC;

It works fine for me, I have few Viewer group users.

What's your QC/ALM version??

You can check 'administration' tab in groups....there is a field name 'undo checkouts and it's unchecked.

Are you using the default QC viewer group or created your group??

If the that user has "Viewer" access only, he cannot do anything on the entities.

Please check if that user is also assigned to other groups.

Confirmed "Viewer" group only... I even asked my teammate to double check.

If you have QC, can you try out and see? but you need to try out in a version control enabled project.

@

Mine in ALM 11 and my project is version control enabled.

Other checking is working, e.g. creation, update and delete. Just the check-in / check-out in enabled for the user, and it doesn't seem to have a place to uncheck this function....

Is your project version control enabled as well?

@sdef

Brilliant! Thanks for your valuable time.. Immediately I googled for Patch 10 and noticed that it was part of the fix.

-Users of the Viewer group were able to check in and check out entities.

Mine is still Patch 9, guess this is why. Will apply the patch immediately. Thanks again.
