Yes you can export data from QC to Excel and vice versa.
To do so you need to install the excel addin into the client machine from where you want to export the data.
1. Go to the Addin page -> More HP Quality Center Add-ins -> Microsoft Excel Add-in.
2. Download the addin and install it. (Need admin rights on the local machine to install it. No admin rights required to run).
3. Login to QC.
4. If you are in Requirement or Test Plan module then you need to change the View to Grid View. (For defect module there is no separate views)
5. If you want selected data then first set the filter according to your requirement.
6. Right Click on the data and go to the "Export".
7. Provide the location and the appropriate format (extension).

Actually you don't need to install Excel Add-in to EXPORT data.
Add-in is needed if you want to IMPORT data from excel file to QC.

You can use an Excel report to export test cases if you like. Here is a query that I used to export some test cases:
TEST.TS_TEST_ID as "Test ID", /*Test.Test ID*/
TEST.TS_NAME as "Test Name", /*Test.Test Name*/
TEST.TS_DESCRIPTION as "Test Desc.", /*Test.Description*/
DESSTEPS.DS_STEP_NAME as "Step Name", /*Design Step.Step Name*/
DESSTEPS.DS_DESCRIPTION as "Step Desc.", /*Design Step.Description*/
DESSTEPS.DS_EXPECTED as "Expected Result", /*Design Step.Expected Result*/
TEST.TS_STATUS as "Test Status", /*Test.Status*/
TEST.TS_TYPE "Test Type", /*Test.Type*/
TEST.TS_RESPONSIBLE as "Test Designer", /*Test.Designer*/
TEST.TS_USER_03 as "Test Priority", /*Test.Priority*/
TEST.TS_USER_04 as "Test Reviewer" /*Test.Reviewer*/
DS_TEST_ID = TS_TEST_ID

Alternately, depending on what exactly you want to export from QC to Excel, you can choose to display data in Grid View (if available this is an option under the View menu in some modules), then select items, then right click in the Grid area and select Export.

Not so long ago, I found on one of QA forums great tool (Thomas H Kendall)
And I almost sure that this tool will help you!
Tool can download from QC: Requirements, Tests, Test Sets. Also you can select what fields you want do download!

I downloaded the 'QC Download Tool v5.1.xls' and i provided the QC URL, User name and Pwd in the pop-up window.
But i get a message that "Quality Center User Authentication Failed. Invalid User name or password"
I provided the same Username / pwd that i use to access QC over the web. I am not using QC Client in my machine and I do not have any add-ins installed. Is there a way i can download the test scripts/sets to Excel??

Somebody put what looked like a really useful tool (QC Download Tool v5.1) on here to export tests into excel but it doesn't work with Excel 2010. Has anybody got a later version which will work?

I used the Download Tool and received the following message: 'Root\DCM Upgrade 2012\SAT_UAT\DCM UI Functionality' is not a valid integer value. This is the path to my Test Set. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I'm trying to get this to work and I'm struggling a little bit. I've managed to get the blue logon screen to appear, but when I enter the QC details and select Authenticate, I get a Visual Basic error "Compile error in hidden module: Logo".
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I was able to find a solution. This is beacuse it is missing the "c:\windows\syswow64\comdlg32.ocx" file (which is an active x control). this link (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/comdlg32.htm) gives you the file to download and how to register… in my case (in the image attached) you can see it is referenced in "SysWow64" and not System32 as the link explains… this is the only change I did when copying and registering the file. I suggest you open the project and check the references (Open Excel Press and hold ALT+F11. Once in go to Tools->References) to see where VB is looking for this file at and put it there and register it. If you are on Windows Vista or 7, ensure that when running the command in the CMD prompt you should open it as an administrator (click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator).
Hope this helps!

I'm really new in this forum, so I 'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask my question.
I'm using HP ALM v11.00, I want to export a test lab (test cases incl. test steps) to an excel (2007) file and make it possible to run the test steps from the excel file. Then to import all the results back from Excel to HP ALM.
I have worked like this before, unfortunately I don't know how to make this setup and what is needed for that.
I have downloaded the excel add-in, the TDconnect.exe... I also succesfully exported from excel to ALM ( it stated successfully, but I couldn't see/find where was the export).
I have tried the tool you have mentioned "QC_Download_Tool_v5.1.zip" , successfully login, but was not what I needed. Though there was a small window that appeared for VBA password and whatever password I was giving, it was not acceptable.
I would appreciate your assistance.

Hope this helps.

Hi I am getting the same error when I tried using the tool ( Authentication failed username/pswd incorrect) any suggestions
I tried the steps mentioned above by segati but still getting the same error... ALM 11, Excel 2010

If you are getting the Authentication Error, please ensure that you have place the .ocx file in the right folder. For 32bit, then it should be in the system32 folder. If you press & hold Alt+F11 it will open up the Microsoft Visual Basic window. Once opened, go to Tools>References and see if you are missing anything in there. Let me know what you find.

When I tried to "Download Test Set to Workbook" (QC Download Tool v5.1) - this time I got "root is not a valid integer value".
I have heard that for downloading/exporting test cases with test steps to xls file and being executable from the xls file I need "Excel Offline Clien" plug in. Unfortunately I'm not able to find it for download.
Any other suggestions?
