HP Discover: A View Through Project and Portfolio Management Tinted Glasses

We came, we saw, we conquered. HP Discover was, as always, a spectacular event. The presentations were well intended, the customer interactions incredible, the partner support amazing, the Venetian beautiful , Las Vegas hot and the 80’s music rocking. After months and months of planning, these three days always feel like they go by in the blink of an eye.  Before our heads stop spinning we wanted to put fingers to keys and invite you to take a look at Discover, through our Project and Portfolio Management tinted glasses.

We kicked off HP Discover in the absolute best way possible with our PPM Special Interest Group (SIG).  Our team, our customers and our partners, also known as the PPM Rock Stars, convened for the meeting of all meetings. The goal was simple, to help all of you get the absolute most out of your HP PPM product, both today and in the future. We enjoyed customer & partner presentations. We reveled in the feedback and suggestions from the group for future PPM offerings. In short, we kicked of the event with a bang. Thank you again to everyone who attended.

So much went on in the 72 hours of HP Discover we couldn’t possibly fill you in on everything  here but, as mentioned, we did want to share with you,  our highlights and key takeaways.

We proudly present a look back at HP Discover through PPM tinted glasses:

-        Use (HP Application Portfolio Management) APM to enable IT to asses and prioritize your application portfolio for rationalization and modernization opportunities, but be sure to do it based on your organizations business goals and IT technology decisions.

-        Reporting was a hot topic and the PPM/ SAP operational reporting capabilities session was just as hot. Customers and experts discussed combining these two products to give your organization some of the most powerful operational reporting capabilities available. We highly recommend it.

-        Application Development Lifecycle designed to help teams effectively manage agile development projects across PM, developers and test engineers. What to remember? Use the solution of your choice to improve productivity and effectiveness.

-        Great sessions from Univita Healthcare, Navy Federal Credit Union, Deloitte Consulting, KeyBank and McKesson Corporation, University of Pittsburg, United Airlines, Entertainment Partners , Lubrizol and the state of Oklahoma, all of whom offered great insight into their unique use case and deployment of HP Project and Portfolio Manager. From forecasting, to budget creation and tracking, to aligning portfolio with business objectives, to demand management, to resource capacity management, to some combination of these while simply keeping the lights on, HP PPM is a chameleon, changing its colors to fit the endless, unique needs out there.  And it was awesome to see these needs solved, in a variety of environments, back to back.

-        Integrations were a hot topic on all around Discover.  We explored the integration of HP Quality Center (QC), Application Lifecycle Manager (ALM), Agile Manager and, of course, PPM and how this hybrid delivery approach can help you derive significant additional value and help you focus your limited resources on the most important things.

-        Mobile, mobile, mobile. Everyone wants the ability to do everything on the go, and including their timesheet submissions…now they can!

All in all it was a great time and a huge success for our team. If you didn’t get to attend we recommend checking out the opening keynote with Meg Whitman and Mr. Kevin Bacon: Watch on demand. You can also take a virtual tour of the amazing Discover Zone, and be sure to virtually stop by the PPM Booth to pick up your virtual PPM Rock Star button.
