Hi, I am trying to see if the new G8 microservers have any CPU whitelisting in the BIOS. I am hoping to pick one of these up and upgrade the CPU to a E3-1220LV2. So my question is two-fold. First, will this work? I am not concerned about the configuration being officially supported. If not, would a 35 Watt Xeon E3 with a GPU work? I am not sure if on this motherboard the CPU is required to have an integrated GPU on die or not with the Matrox controller.
p.S. this thread has been moevd from ProLiant Servers (ML,DL,SL) to ProLiant Servers - Netservers. - Hp forum moderator

As far as I know it will work, but there may be a BIOS issue with adding a chip with gpu as the graphics are run through the matrox chip on the iLO. Check this blog out, this guy is my hero: http://b3n.org/installed-xeon-e3-1230v2-in-gen8-hp
