SFP+ DAC cable part number confusion

Trying to solve an issue first brought up here re: NC522 SFP NIC's: http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1273068394360+28353475&...

We have Brocade cables acquired with our 10Gbe switch. They will not link as others are experiencing with non-HP cables in the above post. I'm trying to find the correct part #'s for the copper DAC SFP+ cables. After an unsuccessful online chat session was on the phone with HP's Server Support. He was able to find the same documentation I did (http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13230_na/13230_na.HTML ) and emailed me these part numbers as being correct: 487655-B21 and 537963-B21 for 3m and 5m cables respectively. Looking at the hp.com pages for those parts shows a picture of the wrong part, and the description is of the wrong part (cached copies of the page because they (HP) seem to be having lengthy server problems (I have not been able to get to the active page for 2 days) http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:gcvkJOM5k-sJ:h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/390... The part number that looks correct (also cached because the active page is also not available) http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:UynJetIglAwJ:h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/402...

Anyone out there been through this and able to confirm my findings? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: SFP+ DAC cable part number confusion

Hi Craig

Firstly, never trust HP images on websites.

You are right though, those cables are different.

487655-B21 and 537963-B21 are ISS SPF+ DAC and carry HP ID v1 signature while J9283B is a Procurve SFP+ and carries HP ID v2 Signature.

If you want to connect a NC522SFP, use a ISS SFP+ DAC 487655-B21 and 537963-B21 for 3m and 5m cables respectively.

If you use a J9283B DAC your nic will not link.
