HP Business Inkjet 2800 "stairstepping" printing problem

by Community Manager on ‎10-07-2011 07:15 AM

Question

The problem is that the printer when printing a document with text, pictures, images, or all together, every three or four rows on the right is more than the previous ones. Has come to seem like a stairway at the end of the print.

Another problem that presents is that when a command to print three copies of the document only prints much as two and then restart the printer.

- I restore defaults.
- Download the driver from the site.

Answer

The stairstepping (and perhaps the multiple copy issue) can be caused by an encoder strip fogged with ink aerosol. Carefully clean the encoder strip as shown here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpd50646

Be sure to heed the warnings, the strip is very fragile and can be damaged with rough handling.
