service error 49.4C02

I have received a service error (49.4C02) on my LaserJet 4200 printer's control panel when an attempt was made to print a MS Word document.

Does anyone know what may have caused the error and how to correct it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: service error 49.4C02

Hi Jeff,

Have you had any responses to this, or were you able to resolve the problem at some point? I'm getting the same error message for a Color LaserJet 9000 DN.

Thanks.

Print a test page, see if ur getting the same error. If u do, print a configuration page. This error could relate too many things- from a bad file sent to the printer, through bad JetDirect card or other communication problem, and up to a bad FW DIMM or a deffected Formatter (printer main board). If this happends only from word, try using the PS or PCL 5e driver instead of the PCL 6 u must be using now.

Hi Pan Canales,

Yes, you should definitely try a different printer driver first. Many service errors are resolved when switching drivers. However, changing the printer driver didn't work for me.

I was able to resolve the 49.4C02 service error by downloading the current firmware version for my HP printer. If you search for your printer model on the HP site, you should be able to find the most current firmware and instructions for installation.

The upgrade process took about 20 minutes.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Jeff

Re: service error 49.4C02

You probably have a bad print job trying to print. Disconnect the cable from the printer that goes to the network or computer and turn on the printer and try to print information pages from the menu on the printer. If they print, the issue is a bad job. You can sometimes, reconnect the network cable and when the data light starts to flash hit the cancel button and cancel the job. If you get it to ready you may want to upgrade the firmware to the latest version.
