Re: printing on both sides for laserjet 1020

Ain't you suppose to take the printed even pages out and put them back in the paper tray and then press the button for the printer to print the odd page on the other side? The LJ 1020 only suppurts manual duplexing, right?

Re: printing on both sides for laserjet 1020

Hi Kelvin,
Try a following step it might help if you'r using manual duplex :
1.)Download and install a compatible HP LaserJet PCL6 driver from . Once the compatible HP LaserJet PCL6 driver is installed, disable bidirectional support for that driver before printing.

2.)Disabling bidirectional printing results in the print spooler being unable to use any language monitor. A conflict in the printing system language monitor can cause jobs to hang in the print queue. Follow the steps below for the applicable operating system to do this

Right-click the HP LaserJet driver icon and then click Properties. ,Select the Ports tab. ,Remove the check from the box next to Enable Bidirectional Support. ,Click Apply (if applicable). and then Click OK to exit the driver properties

3.)if the problem presist try to used Install an alternate driver provided by Windows. Alternate drivers compatible with the HP LaserJet printer, such as the HP LaserJet 4 Plus are available in the Add Printer Wizard.

Hope this help and support.

Re: printing on both sides for laserjet 1020

Does the above advice mean that there are LaserJet PCL6 drivers compatible with the LaserJet 1020? If so, which driver exactly
should be used?

I'm experiencing the same problem as described by Kelvin, with the LaserJet 1020 on Windows XP Pro: the even pages print and the
"Print on both sides" dialog shows up unresponsive, so it's impossible to click on Continue to print the odd pages. The only work around seems to be to unplug the USB cable from the computer and plug it back in; then, the odd pages get printed, but the dialog doesn't disappear and must be closed forcefully (e.g. via the Task Manager).

I tried a few things, none of which solved the problem: uninstalled the driver that came with the printer and installed the "Plug and Play Bundle" driver downloaded from HP; disabled Bidirectional Support on the 1020 driver (then, the dialog simply didn't show up); installed the printer as LaserJet 2100 PCL6 and also as LaserJet 4 Plus, using the drivers provided with Windows.
