laserjet 2035N and printing from IBM ISeries

I have found a problem using a 2035N and printing data from an IBM ISeries midrange machine.  The printer prints the report then pauses for upward of one minute, prints a partial line of "garbage" characters, pauses again then prints another line of garbage that looks vaguely like a banner page.  Normal setup is to provide a static IP, enter that IP into a host table and create an out queue.  In this case, it required creating a printer (crtdevprt) and configuring it as a 3812 model 1...which to most folks that know AS/400 is ancient.

HP, will there be a firmware/software fix for this issue soon?  The printers may be inexpensive but that is outweighed by configuration issues.
