PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

Is there a way to reset the page count on this model?

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

See thread http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1336474 which discusses a similar requirement for LJ P2015.

But I don't know if the same command will work with the LJ 2200.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

It doesn't.
I can get it to print from DOS with DIR>LPT1, but change page count with APSHAW's solution.
I wonder if there is a trick to modify that command for other laserjets with no LCD display, like 2100 and 2200?

Attached is the PCL refered to in the attachment in my last post. Save this file and then from a DOS prompt issue the following ...

copy file.txt lpt1: /b

replace file,txt with the name of the saved attachment.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

Actually I've just realised that the last attachment resets the count to zero. If you want it setting to something else, let me know I will modify the file (it is binary code) and re-post.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

How about 2234?

I picked up this 2200d last weekend to practice on, so it could be anything.

I really need to know what to convert the page count to and where to insert it.
There care a few machines in the field I have to go back to, and there will be more.

Thanks.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

Why do you want to reset this count? This is the number of pages that the print engine has processed - you normally change the count on a new formatter board back to the old count.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

I replaced the formatter on a 2200 and a P2015 recently and had to leave them in the field with a new count and a note to add the old count to whatever the config report shows.

Messy.

I hope to go back and correct the page count on both printers.

I guess the only question I have is, is the page count in decimal or hex?

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

FYI, The stuff I sent you works with the 2100 and 2200 series printers (amongst others). It didn't work for the P2015 BUT the link Chris sent you has another solution for that model (and probably others too).

Can't seem to find the 2234 model (typo?)

The page count is decimal. The last attachment I sent has to be modified with an editor that preserves binary data.

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

2234 was just a random number for the page count, in answer to your "If you want it setting to something else, let me know" offer.

I have used your solution a few times now on my test machine and I understand.
Thanks a lot!

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

Good evening.

I have had an issue with an HP laserjet M2727 recently in which I was trying to change the serial number and page count due to having to install a new formatter board.  After searches I found that I was able to change the serial number with the following:

%-12345X@PJL

@PJL SET SERVICEMODE=HPBOISEID

@PJL SET SERIALNUMBER=XXXXXXXXXX (CHANGE TO YOUR SN)

@PJL SET SERVICEMODE=EXIT

@PJL RESET

%-12345X

I then tried inserting lines to change the pagecount as well (Total pages printed ONLY) which are NOT on the configuration page, but on the usage page printed from the reports section in the control panel.

Several lines I have found on the web include:

@PJL SET PAGECOUNT=XXXX

@PJL SET PRINTPAGECOUNT=XXXX

@PJL DEFAULTPAGES=XXXX

and the like, but none of these worked for me.  I stubled across another post in which you can add hex commands such as:

@PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "04000401010109080300dada"
@PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040005010401020608020319"

In this case, the page count changed, but if you try to print to the printer or print out another page - such as a config page, the Total pages printed total goes back to zero!

I can send the commands again and again.  Each time the count shows up after file transfer, then upon printing the very next print - the count resets to zero...

Any ideas?  I've tested several files and the ascii character lines are the only ones that seem to change the page count - but it does not hold.

Thanks in advance!

Re: PJL command for resetting Laserjet 2200d page count

Hi with sorry on late reply.

What you must understand is the fact that these two lines with DMINFO commands are assembled for PRINTER, not for MFP's print engine total page passes counter adjustment.

When you alter one of the usage counters on MFP, like on M2727, with service mode commands than all usage counters resets to zero. This is expected.

Note on this that when ever you put these PJL commands to 2727

@PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "04000401010109080300dada"
@PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040005010401020608020319"

you change ONLY the TOTAL-MONO-PAGE-COUNT

But rest of counters remain unchanged, like:

COPIER-ADF-PAGE-COUNT, COPIER-PRINT-PAGE-COUNT,

TOTAL-ENGINE-PAGE-COUNT, PRINT-ENGINE-JAM-COUNT, PRINT-ENGINE-MISPICK-COUNT

...and some other... and all these counters are mutualy related and also connected to Error Log and Fax Log of the device.

I hope that you can understand what I am triyng to explain here. :)

BR,

Zeljko
