M1522 firmware error

Hi All.

One of our employees has tried to update our m1522nf by the network.

Unfortunately the update failed and the screen displays now "Firmware corrupt, ready 2 download".

When we switch on the m1522nf his screen remains off almost all the time while we hear the engines running.
Is there a way to upload the firmware again or to solve that ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: M1522 firmware error

Hello!

I know how to solve this problem.

First you must turn your M1522xx on and if it shows "Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download", that's what we need.

If LCD screen is blank, then clear all tasks for this printer and delete its driver from "Printers and Faxes". Now turn it off and on again. Do it untill "Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download" shows.

------------------------------------------

When we see "Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download" we should do as follows:

1) TURN PRINTER'S POWER OFF
(USB should stay connected)

2) Delete installed driver (if exists)

3) Manually install driver for M1522xx
(When choosing port, use one of "Virtual Printer Ports for USB" which is your printer connected to)

4) Run firmware update program from HP Support web page (PRINTER IS OFF)
(ex.:LJM1522_FW_Update-20080612.exe)

5) In firmware update program's window choose your printer (manually installed) and press "Send Firmware" button

6) Wait for firmware to be completely sent to your printer's task window

7) TURN YOUR PRINTER ON

8) First you will see "Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download" message. If there is no such message, turn off and on again untill it shows. Then message will change to "Downloading...", "Erasing..." and "Programming..."

9) When all this operations end, printer'll ask you to turn it off and on.

That's all. No need to contact HP Support or buy any parts.

P.S. While "Downloading...", "Erasing..." or "Programming...", printer may hang. It's not fatal. Just repeat all operations again.
To prevent hangs use quality USB cable when updating firmware.

P.P.S. Sorry for bad english. I'm russian...

Re: M1522 firmware error

I can't even get the "Firmware corrupt, ready 2 download" message after attempting a firmware update. All I get on the screen is "Hewlett-Packard >>". After a few seconds, the two angle brackets/arrows disappear. The printer does not respond at all to any buttons.

Re: M1522 firmware error

I have the same problem.
HP M1522 worked fine for 9 months, then freezes after 10m of use each time.
thats why I update the firmware from 2008 to the newest 20090403.
the update process hang while the display indicated "erasing". I turned off/on the printer.
"Firmware Corrupt"
"Ready 2 Download"

I deinstalled the Software, rebooted.
Started the Softare installation until the message appears "turn the printer on"
After turning on,
continuing the install process was not possible because the installing software didn't recognize the USB printer.

I guess I have to send the printer to HP, like many other customers did?

Re: M1522 firmware error

Justin Liu, I think it's a hardware failure in your case. Contact HP Service.

Re: M1522 firmware error

jan menzel, Before starting Installation software You need to do THIS:

PRINTER MUST BE OFF!!!

2) Delete installed driver

3) MANUALLY install driver for your turned off printer.
MANUALLY choose port. Use one of "Virtual Printer Ports for USB" which is your printer connected to.
(PRINTER STILL OFF)

4) Run firmware update Installation program from HP Support web page
(PRINTER STILL OFF)

5) In firmware update Installation program's window choose your printer (manually installed) and press "Send Firmware" button

6) Wait for firmware to be completely sent to your printer's task window.

7) TURN YOUR PRINTER ON

And wait...

In your case it MUST help!
Good luck!

Re: M1522 firmware error

thanks Kodi@k

it has worked, the important step was 3)

MANUALLY choose port. Use one of "Virtual Printer Ports for USB" which is your printer connected to.

The firmware upgrade worked.
BUT...

after 20mn of use, my printer simply turns off, wich is better as with the old firmware (freeze).

I think, as I read elsewhere, there is a bug in the chips on the HP that freezes.

Anyway, Kodi@k thanks again, I am able to use the printer until I will send it back to HP service.

Re: M1522 firmware error

Thanks, Kodi@k. Unfortunately, I am about 3 months out of warranty on the printer, so I have to pay $40 just to talk to support with no guarantee they can actually do anything. My guess is that they will "offer" me a refurbished model for $180 or so.

From what I have seen, this is a fairly widespread problem from this firmware update, but HP does not seem interested in supporting this printer. The support guy told me that it is no longer in their support database, even though it is still being sold on HP's own website.

Re: M1522 firmware error

If your printer doesn't show Ready 2 Download message, turn on the printer pressing OK and X (cancel) buttons. This makes the printer boots in firmware recovery mode.
