Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

I am receiving a 10.92.03 "Cartridges Not Engaged" error on a Laserjet CP3505n.  The cartridges all appear fine and appear to be seated correctly in the machine.  Unfortunately, It appears that the mechanism that the electronic transfer belt is attached to is not latching into place on the right side.  Because of this, the front door panel does not close all the way.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

Take all the toners out of the printer with the power off and then see if the door closes correctly. If it does it means one of the toners is not sitting right on the right side. Turn on the printer with no toners installed and wait for it to tell you to install the toners and see if you are able to install them and still get the door to close. If not report back.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

I tried removing the cartridges.  The door closes and the machine tells me to install supplies.  If I install the cartridges one at a time starting with the magenta cartridge and working up, the door seems to close fine with all but the black cartridge installed.  However, the machine still says all the cartridges are missing.  The interior mechanism still does not seem to latch on the right side as long as any of the cartridges are in the machine.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

There are little white ledges on the right side that should be pressed all the way down with the toners removed and the front cover all the way down with the transfer belt installed. If they are not all the way down, push them down and then try again. It is the linkage that the transfer belt fits into on the right side that moves everything down when the door is opened. If that does not work, open the front door, remove the toners and take a digital picture of the right side inside and post here so I can see if I can see what is out of place.

I did not see anything that would need to be pressed down.  I'm attaching a photo.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

The pieces on the right side just do not look right. The white items that I mentioned above are the four white plastic pieces you see in each slot. The one at the bottom in the magenta slot looks right where the ledge is sitting in the correct position. The others do not look right. What should happens is when you start to close the transfer belt without the toners, those white pieces should move up. Also the locking cams for the toners on the right also do not appear to be sitting right. They should all be in the same position. Can you give us any history. What happened or did you just acquire this unit with the problem. It could be the MDA gears are not aligned correctly, but that usually happens when the unit has been removed for some repair and then put back with checking the aligning of the gears.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

This machine is (and I am estimating) 2 or 3 years old, and has been in the same position on a table for the entire time.  The users said this just started happening on the day before my for my first post.  I don't know if they did something while changing the toner or not.

I should also mention that when you open and close the door, there is a very slight clicking or popping sound in the lower right of the machine, almost like there is a gear or something out of alignment.

Odds are the plastic bar that engages the cartridge locks has broken at the bottom. The part number is RC1-6645-000CN. Pain in the neck to change out. I will post later some pictures and it is the last picture which is probably your issue.  Heck I will attach it here.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

Sorry, I had to put this project on the shelf for a while.  I took the machine apart today.  When I took the right panel off, a white piece, coated with pink lubricant, fell out.  It measures maybe 2 cm x 2 cm.  I could not determine where the piece broke off of.  With the panel detached, I was able to see that one of the rollers under the piece I mentioned earlier (forget the name - it looks like a wide black belt) was dislodged.  I figured out how to get the roller back in place and the front panel now closes properly.  I thought I had a breakthrough but, unfortunately, the 10.92.03 message is still there.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

Post a picture of the item. I bet it is the top piece of the bar that lifts the locks. If you post you email I will send you a document about replacing the cartridge locks with full instructions and pictures. Also has procedures to align the gears. I have a gut feeling you will need to replace that one part I told you about.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

You did not open the attachment I gave you above.  If you had that part is exactly what is says this end missing.  That is the part you found.  You need to replace that complete piece which is not very easy and you may want to bring it to an authorized support provider.  I will attach the same picture again.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

I did open the attachment you had provided. I now see that the part is buried under other mechanisms. Can you tell me the name and/or number of the part?

RC!-6645-000cn. Not a job for the faint at heart. Not only do a lot of items have to come off, but you have re-align the gears that your remove to include the MDA when putting back together.

Re: Laser CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

I seem to be having the same difficulty with my HP 3800dn color laserjet.  How do I remove the right side of the printer to peek into the workings?  Could you also send me the replacement part number?

Thanks very much.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

David,

I know this is an old post, but I was hoping you could share your procedure for replacing the broken plastic tab (RC1-6645-00cn) that you identified.  The picture you posted showing the break is exactly the piece that I found snapped off in my printer.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you would be able to provide the rest of the instructions in the document you posted. They seem to have been cut off after step A of what to check when re-installing the MDA. I would very much appreciate it, as I am elbow deep in laser jet right now. Thanks in advance!

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

Im having this error, but without the toner locks being broken off!

The front-end of the machine wont close properly, and generates error 10.92.03 The locks seem to work on the toner.

Does anyone know how or where to look for this problem?

Re: Laserjet CP3505n 10.92.03 Cartridges Not Engaged error

Your issue is with the yellow slot or at least that is the first one being reported. One other item which causes this issue is the lever on the right side breaks off and after you close the door all the locks disengage as the lock lever fall down. Easy to tell. Open the and close the toner door and watch the shutters on each toner cartridge as they should open. When you get the error, open the toner door slowly and see if the shutters are still open or covering the drums of the toners. If they are covering the lever lock piece is broken.
