Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

I'm trying to connect my 6p to my laptop through a recently purchased usb to parallel cable.

Nothing is working!
I installed cable drivers and the 6p drivers are also on my pc.

I want to keep this printer, its a workhorse!!

Thanks

Re: Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

I am having the same problem. Also, I am new to using this forum. I found a thread that has been closed dated 1/6/08. Answered by Dewaine. Something about a USB virtual port. What is that?
Sure would appreciate an answer that I can understand.
Thank you.

Re: Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

I am switcing from a PC to an iMac. My printer will only print one page at a time provided I shutdown the iMac and restart.
I have down loaded HP's driver for a LaserJet 1200 printer (my printer) but with no results. I spent 3 hours on the telephone with Apple specialist. They tried everything they could thinkk of say there is nothing more they can do and suggested that I contact HP.

Can you help resolve this problem as the 1200 is a fine printer that I would like to keep.

Re: Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

I have exactly the same problem as James P. Lister.
My iMac was connected with my HP Laser Jet 5000N printer via Belkin parallel-USB adapter.
I contacted the manufacturer of that adapter and had an answer, that this adapter is not compatible with iMac.
Is any parallel-USB adapter compatible to that configuration available on the market?

Re: Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

I have a 6P that I am making plans to keep as I upgrade my 6 year old computer. The issue is that I will need a USB to parallel port adapter as stated in this thread. All the reviews that I have read indicate that most cables that had no problems were listed as "USB to DB25 IEEE-1284 PARALLEL PRINTER ADAPTER". Several reviewers stated that the cable that were "1284" cables and were name brand cables had no problems. These usually did not need to use the accompanying software either. From my research the cables are a few dollars more but it seems to be worth it from the reviews I have read.

Re: Laserjet 6p; connecting via USB?

Did you ever find a usb to parallel cable that worked? I just purchased a desktop using Windows 7, and find I need one before I can run my Laserjet 6p.
