LaserJet 1300 won't print anymore. flashing amber light

I've tried restarting, disconnecting, there's no paper jam. I push the big green button and I get the little green button to light up but then it goes back to the flashing amber light about twice a second.

Make sure the door is closed properly, reseat the toner cartridge. Is the door interlock engaging properly. Check the back door that there isn't a piece of paper stuck in there somewhere.
When in doubt, check your manual:)

I've checked and rechecked for paper jams. I reset the toner cartridge many times. It quit when I went to print a document. Is the flashing yellow light an indicator for a paper jam? Cause I swear there is no paper jam.

Re: LaserJet 1300 won't print anymore. flashing amber light

Lets try a test. Open and then close the toner door. Does the motor turn. If it does not then the printer thinks there is a jam. It could be someplace you can not see like the sensor flag in the fuser. It does not mean a piece of paper is stuck only that a flag is in the wrong position so the printer thinks there is a jam. Now if the motor turns you could have a board issue, but there is one thing you can try which was prevalent on the 1200 series and I have seen a couple on the 1300. Unplug the printer and remove the left side cover. There is a board with a couple of ribbon connectors going to it. Remove and reseat all the connectors and then plug back in and see if that helps.

I'm thinking the 1200...which is very similar, but if just the amber lite is flashing and no other lites on, try reseating the fan connector. Is the fan working?
When in doubt, check your manual:)

Oops, when I removed the toner cartridge and looked under I found a paper jam. I think the tip off was when you said there had to be a flag triggered OR an actual paper jam.

So, all I can say is thankyou for your assitance and sorry to have been a bother. You all will get the highest marks from me.

Re: LaserJet 1300 won't print anymore. flashing amber light

I had the same symptoms. Tried everything suggest here and on another HP discussion board. No joy.

By looking at the printer's web server (the printer was on the network and accepting jobs, just not printing anything) I could see that it thought it had

What worked for me in the end was CLEANING THE ELECTRONIC CONTACT PADS ON THE CARTRIDGE with a soft cloth (i.e. my shirttails).

I hope this account of my experience will help someone.

Re: LaserJet 1300 won't print anymore. flashing amber light

Well.   I've had troubles with no apparent cause. i.e. printing fine.  Next day - nada.  Green light solid.  I realized it is NOT anything to do with the remark "Not connected to computer".  It seemed to me something like paper stuck, not that it had, but correct there was NO paper bits hidden inside;  so - onward we go.  Is there a door open somewhere?

*I turned off the machine eventually, even though it seems counterintuitive to me;  when I turned it on again, the solid green light has gone and in its place a flashing Amber light.    At one point I managed a printout - not my doc, an internally generated printer doc, showing all ink is fine.   check.  nothing from either computer, though. check; the ink.

your remarks about taking off the left side;  Even though I'm an old (74) woman I did this;  And it is extremely difficult, those parts really grind against each other.  I didn't dare fool around with all those things, so glommed it all together again, could not find where I removed the little black plate with the screw, so that's still on the table.    However NOW that amber light is gone, just the green Ready-lamp - so;   i made a print.    weird.   What about tomorrow?

WTF is going on?  How can it decide  to stop printing from one day to the next?    can anyone answer all this?  I am too old to be clambering under tables, with scrwdrivers poking them here and there and trying to wrench the side off the machine.

it is all very disappointing.   Elizabeth1
