HP color LaserJet 9500 wont print color 11x17 in Win7

Hello. We have a very reliabile HP color LaserJet 9500. We have 4 trays of paper, one of which is 11x17. If we try to print in windows 7 to 11x17, we get the following error:

PCL XL error
Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: Ilegal OperatorSequence
Operator: SetNeutralAxis
Position: 3

I have found that this repeats on every machine. From my research on this forum, the suggested method is to use the PCL5 driver, but this doesn't seem to print in color.

I have attached the file output for similar images printed in 11x17 to the printer. Not being familiar with the PCL, I'm not sure where the error is. I am uploading this data in hopes someone else has a solution or can help get HP to fix the driver for Win7.

Thanks

Re: HP color LaserJet 9500 wont print color 11x17 in Win7

Hello,

Try this given below steps

1.Right click the printer and go to the properties.
2.click on the advanced tab and uncheck 'enabled printing features'
3.click on the general tab and click on 'printing preferences'
4.click on the 'advanced' tab and disable the 'print optimizations'

Hope this helps you! :)

Re: HP color LaserJet 9500 wont print color 11x17 in Win7

Hello.

I tried this as you specified plus a few other combinations. All of them produced the same result.

I am using what looks like driver version 6.10.2009, but I could be mistaken. How do I verify this?

Thank you very much for your suggestion

Re: HP color LaserJet 9500 wont print color 11x17 in Win7

[ Edited ]

Today we updated everything to the latest:

Upgraded JetDirect Card from V.29.12 to V.29.20 (latest)
No Change
Updated Printer firmware from 2006 era to 20120302 (latest)
No Change

However, when we updated to the very latest PCL6-universal driver

upd-pcl6-x32-5.5.0.12834.exe

it started to work.
we were previously using 5.5.0.0

Seems the combination of firmware and updated driver did the trick.

the .prn file attached is very different. it's an identical image being printed. Seems the version of PCL is different.

works: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (0.3.1563.12834)

broken: HP Color LaserJet 9500 PCL 6 (0.3.7071.0)
