it's a firmware communication error.often caused by a corrupt or bad print job comming in.sometimes can be a nic card,memory or something on the formatter or say the firmware itself.
if you disconnect it from any network and power cycle it ,does the error clear?if so then it probably would be corrupt print job.which can also occur if an application conflicts with a driver.if it does not clear ,then it would point to something on the formatter as mentioned above.where then you can remove a nic card or other added options and power up to see if it clears.then add them back one at a time to see which might cause it.can't remember if 4650 has a built in nic or not.
Hi Randal I've had this with a lj4650 and a lj5550. Power off and remove the formatter and reseat the Compact Firmware module. If that doesn't work try 'Initiliase Disks' to reset the firmware. 1. Power off the printer 2. Power on the printer and watch for the memory count in the display 3. When the memory count appears in the display, press and hold the Menu button 4. When all 3 LED's are on and steady, release the Menu button. 5. Press and release the Back/Exit button 6. When you see INITIALIZE DISKS, press and release the Green Tick button. If error returns replace the Compact Firmware Module (p/n Q7725-67958 32MB compact flash firmware DIMM module - Version 07.006.0) I hope this helps Regards Bob
Bob its 2011 and that procedure works nicely. The empahsis is on once 3 lights -> "Ready", "Data" & "Attention" light during the memory count steps, then release the menu button (4650dn). Previously I was holding the button too long.
