I just ran into a laserjet 2100tn printer at work, that will not keep from going offline on the jetdirect web page as well as the printer. the printer does show a red exclamation light(solid) with a green go light(solid)
Also on the hp web page for that printer display panel shows 40 EIO.
I am thinking this refers to the jet direct card itself, however reseating it and powering the printer back on has not helped.
also it seems to be an intermittant issue, as hitting the go button on the printer will allow it to print (manual feed is set to off)
Does not happen on all print jobs.
Pinging the printer on the network shows it is online.

40 EIO Bad Transmission
Recommendation is to press Go to clear the error message and continue printing.

I do have people hitting go after it occurs,
However I don't want them to have to do this all day.

verify if this is Always the Even file which raises problem.
Ask that a single customer uses the printer and to see if the problem returns.
if yes==>verify cables,if no==>verify config. users
try change driver.
hope this helps

I switched jet direct cards with another laserjet 2100 and still got the 40 eio error on the new printer.
After checking all settings and printer drivers and properties - still no go
I then made sure by telneting to the printers IP address for each printer that mac address, IP address and printer host name matched correctly. Now JD cards have all correct information assigned, also correct IP address in port tab in Printer properties.
Powercycle the printers and Whalaaaa, they have both been online for the whole day.
