Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

And yet ... there are people like me with over 20 of the units and not a single instance of the 49.4c27 error (or similar errors). Hasn't mattered what firmware version I've used from what the machines came with to the newest. The P4015 has not given us that error at all.

Therefore...
There has to be environmental factors that increase or decrease your chances of getting there error. Whether it's a network communication thing/noise or electrical stability/grounding issue, driver/firmware issue ... something at the location's environment has to be trigging the problem more or less.

How well HP is able to re-program the machine to minimize those problems will be the real test.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

It would be hard to imagine that it's an environmental factor for me, but I could be wrong. I have roughly 50 in production with some getting the error, some not.

More importantly, in one location I have two p4014s, on one electrical circuit and the same network, plugged into the same switch, printing from the same computer with the same driver... one was getting the errors while the other wasn't. The only differences are that the one getting errors prints primarily letter and less pages (6782 currently) while the other prints primarily legal and more often(40877 currently)... neither of those factors should matter though because of our other printers, they all print primarily legal and are just as heavily used. The only other differences I've found in my printers is the DC Controller (D vs F) and the firmware version of the embedded Jetdirect... but no trends there.

Either way, I have had no errors since downgrading the firmware to the 04.042.0 version... which has been a blessing.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

I have had same error intermittantly since it was installed 4 months ago. I updated to firmware 04.047.2 and had 2 formatter boards, 2 DC Controllers but these made no difference. After more lengthy discussions with HP I altered the link speed to 100TX-Full, (On the Network tab, Other Settings, Link Settings) so far this has proved to work.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

I'm posting this here even though it may not apply to your LJ-P4014/P4015 printers ... but it does apply to 49.4cxx errors (and someone may stumble across this thread).

I got an alert from HP about updated firmware for the LJ-M3027 and LJ-M3035 devices. Among the list of fixes it listed:

"When "Disable Reverse DNS Lookups" is enabled under Settings -> Kerberos Authentication -> Advanced, the MFP could experience a 49.4C02 error."

I have not found that setting on any of my P4015 printers, but my MFP devices (that have recent/new firmware all have this option.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

HP has recommended I use firmware 04.84.4.

Has anyone tried this? I've been battling the 49.4C27 error on a P4015n LaserJet for the past several months (downgrading firmware to 04.42.4 caused a new set of problems). Let me know!

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

04.048.4 does not have the fix for the 49.4c27 error. The fix is scheduled for the Fall release of firmware.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

I'm having this 49.4c27 error on multiple P4515's in remote offices throughout the country...

How do i go about 'downgrading' the Firmware to Version 04.042.0 remotely without having the '04.042.0 Firmware Upgrade Utility'?

Is there an HP Firmware Updater that lets me choose which Firmware (*.rfu) I want to apply to a select printer?

I remember there being some sort of Command Line Utility/Commands that could be run where I can select the Firmware File and the IP Address of the Printer, but I can't seem to find those instructions anywhere...

Any & all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

This should help you, see attachment. Ignore the fact that it is the readme file from vs 4.046.2a.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Open Windows explorer and open an ftp connection to the printer:
ftp://

Drag and drop the RFU file onto the window and it will upload the file to the printer and it will start downgrading.

Alternately, if for some reason you're not using the networked option, share the printer out and copy the file by typing at a command prompt the following with being the computer it is shared from and being the shared printer's name:
copy \\\

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Latest from HP:

Good afternoon,

If you are receiving this message it is because you have a reported the following issue:

â P4xxx FW rev 04.047.2 or rev 04.048.4 - 49.4c27 errorâ

I wanted to reach out and inform you that your escalation is still in an active state and the hp Lab has committed to a Fall 2009 release of FW to address the issue â the last communication for release was Oct 2009.

As we approach the communicated release time more information will follow and I will keep everyone posted. Thank you for your continued patience.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Hello everybody,

For myself, I have firmware 04.047.2 with PCL6 driver and same problem like everyone.
We print through Win 2003 Server, Citrix PS4.5, AS400 V5R4.
Regarding network speed, the printers & switch were originally set to Auto/Auto.

We have nine 4015X printers, and I've noticed that this problem occurs quite more with a printer which prints jobs from software "Sage Ligne 1000"

"scott david" had the problem "PCL XL error", enabling "send TrueType in Bitmap" in advanced settings of the printer did solve this "PCL XL error" for us.

About the 49.4C27 problem, "allworkandnoplay" user said that PCL5 driver hasn't worked for him whereas Claude Godfrin seems to have the problem solved with PCL5 driver.

So I would like to know if others have tried PCL5 driver with successful results. If so, could you please precise which PCL5 version you are using since 2 versions are available on HP site :

1) HP LaserJet 4010 series/4510 Series PCL5 Universal Print Driver (61.081.32.00
May 1st 2008)

2)HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL5 5.0 (July 16th 2009)

I've seen previous posts about the downgrade fix, but just wondering if the PCL5 option could be a final fix as well.

Thanks

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

After sending HP a stack trace they eventually provided me with a test build version of the firmware for the LJ4015, this has now been working without any issue since middle of July 2009.
I have now noticed that there is a new firmware version on HP's site ver 4.048.4

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Val Leeming, that is good news that the test firmware is working well on your side.
Firmware 04.048.4 is from June and it seems that problem is still present with this firmware if you refers to Ron Schuler latest post.
Your test firmware must be more recent than the June one. I hope the final version will be released soon

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Ron,

I downloaded the 4.042 zip file. I used winzip to unzip it. It is an RFU file. How do I use it? I am not familiar with FRU files?

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

RFU Stands for "Remote Firmware Update"...

I'm assuming you're getting the 49.4c27 Error and that's why you're trying to Roll Back the Firmware of your P4515 to the Original Release Version of 04.042.0?

If so, then it's actually quite simple to load the RFU File onto your printer..

Open up Internet Eplorer and type //... It will take you to the Printer's Web Interface. Click on the Print tab on the left-hand side, where you will be able to Browse to the RFU file that you downloaded to your Desktop.

The process takes about 5 minutes, and then the Printer will start to Re-boot itself and the Firmware version will have been "downgraded"

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Please forgive me for not reading all the posts on this topic, when I realised that it was almost 12 months old and people are STILL putting in new info, I kinda skipped alot.

We are currently running only 1 of these printers and the error has only appeared once, (As far as I know, we all know how end users can be). It looks like we could be in for much much more heartache though, so if someone who has been updating this over the last 12 months or so could please confirm or deny this basic summary.

*The 49.4x27 error is a communications issue with the DC Board.
*The error presents on a regular basis and requires a power cycle to corrent.
*For many cases, turning off all except the DHCP protocol fixes the issues.
*It is suggested that rolling back to the release firmware 04.042.0 fixes the problem, but is not 100% confirmed
*HP won't admit a problem, but it has been suggested that the new firmware due October 09 will include a fix

Sorry to those who have contributed, but a skim read up to current suggests there is 1000 potential, but no 100% confirmed fixes, and until we are getting the error on a more regular basis, I don't want to run any of these potential fixes, just in case it causes more issues.

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

Our firm has approx 20 HP LJ P4515n's...

Of those 20, 4 began to get the error on a daily basis. Each of those 4 had mostly current firmware versions, but none were the same (basically, whatever version they had out of the box).

Back in August, I rolled the firmware back to the original pre-release version on those 4 printers and no users have reported any issues since then. (I would say that's 100% verification)

As for HP confirming the problem; According to a post by 'Ron Schuler' on August 12, he received a message from HP regarding an Open Ticket stating that a fix will be included in a Fall release of the firmware. The only confirmation we'll probably get from HP will be in the "Fixes" List AFTER the Firmware that fixes the problem is released.

Just my two cents...

Re: HP LJ P4015 Error Log Msg 49.4c27 F981 3694 Printer Error

It's been a long hard road, but the firmware has been fixed. May take a few weeks before you see it on the website:

Enhancements:
The following enhancement is provided by this firmware release: (Datecode: 20090925 04.049.3)

Base Printer:

The Asset Field found in the products EWS (Embedded Web Server) which is used for assigning Asset numbers to a device has been changed to allow support for more characters.

Fixes or improvements:
Fixes or improvements for the following issues are provided by this firmware release: (Datecode: 20090925 04.049.3)

Base Printer:

Random 49.4C27 errors with firmware versions greater than 04.044.X and less than 04.049.3 (this release).

A 49.4C02 may be seen on the control panel when printing large postscript files.

Some postscript files generated from SAP applications may print barcodes incorrectly.

Quiet Mode does not function properly in firmware version 04.048.4.

Engine cycle count is lost when moving to or from firmware version 04.048.4. Upgrading to this release from firmware older than 04.048.X will not result in lost engine cycle count.

Replacing the formatter on a P4014 or P4015 may result in the product model being incorrectly reported as a P4515

Embedded Jetdirect:

Installation of a Root CA Certificate no longer causes "Invalid Format" on other certificate installations.

Access Control List contents now persist over reboots

HTTPS is now forced on Printer/MFP tabs when required.

When DNS responses are returned as a stream (TCP) rather than a datagram (UDP), JDI would wait forever for more data.

When Web Jetadmin is on a different subnet than the printer and establishes an HTTPS connection to query status, the JDI would mishandle the connection and hang.

IPP operation is now allowed when the EWS is disabled

Web Jetadmin Admin operations are now allowed when the Embedded Web Server is disabled.

You will need to wait a little bit longer. Ron said 2 weeks on Oct. 12, 2009. For now use the older version which is not on the hp web site, but there is a link above that you can get it from.
