HP 601 and am trying to install the drivers on Win2K Server

Hi I have a new HP 601 and am trying to install the drivers on Win2K Server.

I have downloaded the Universal driver for PCL 6 but it will not install for Win2K Server - If I try to run the install.exe I get install.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

Where can I find drivers for Win2K server for the newer HP printers?

Hello Gerry,

Check out this link, where in you can select your OS from the list and download the required drivers for your printer.

Re: HP 601 and am trying to install the drivers on Win2K Server

As I am sure you have learned by now, Win 2K Server is no longer supported in favor of later Server 2003 and Server 2008 which a majority of customers have migrated. With the new functionality there is too much work to add the new functionality and also support the old.

With that being what it is, my recommendation would be to get the latest version that did support Win 2K Server and load that and test to see if it will work adequately for your new m600 series printers. That link is harder to find but I am providing the one I found below at the HP website.

When you do get it resolved be sure to mark the post that solves your problem as Accepted Solution for others who might have a similar issue.

Do you see any drivers on that page for Windows 2000 Server - the ones for windows 2000 DO NOT WORK!

Instead of doing all this work, just choose one of the older hp laserjet pcl drivers that are built into the server operating system. Usually it will have the hp 4000 or 4100 pcl driver and they should work just fine on the 601.

Been there done that - The problem with that is When you have a Windows 7 box and you want to add the printer from the Network Domain Controller it will refuse to install with the message that the driver is incorrect for the printer. That worked fine in XP, but nadda in W7.
