Many thanks for your prompt and efficient reply. The process was not as fast and as easy as I would have liked (the last 3 screws were so tight that I had to take an extractor and destroy them) but it is documented to perfection and the result is there: Now magenta prints normally dense again... until the next time of course!
Do you know if other Laser printers show similar issues and need such "intensive care"?

Thanks, this is good to know. Next time I shop for a printer, I will still consider color

Hi, same problem! Interested in attacking from the front. Could you please supply more info after moving 4 cartridges.

Cleaning from the front does not work. It only gets the outside of the lens where 99% of the time the toner causing the issue is on the inside of the laser/scanner assembly. To try just remove the toner cartridges and the 4 clear plastic pieces in the back on the lens. Use a qtip to clean them and when that does not work follow the instructions above.

People, this is great!
I was Stubbeling with this issue for a year now.
Followed all the steps as mentioned and the printer is working like new.
Dit is de perfecte oplossing voor het probleem van het vervagen van Magneta oftewel de rode kleur.
Alle stappen netje doorlopen (Ja alle genoemde stekkertjes moeten echt los) .
De printer werkt nu weer als een nieuwe! Dit scheeld ook weer veel rep. Kosten!

I understand that cleaning from the front may be ineffective, but I would like to try it before I embark upon dismantling the printer. One thing I am not certain about is the clear plastic pieces you reference that should be removed. I cannot find a good diagram to locate the exact parts. Could you advise? Many thanks for posting the detailed procedures. I had many trips back and forth to OfficeMax with toner cartridges, thinking that was the cause.

never rely on big box salesmen or customer service to advise (they are strictly sales). Occashionally i have found good advise on this sight, and if you are so inclined and want to learn about your own machines (aka device), dive it. There are lots of manuals, free on the web to guide you.
