Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Hi, my LaserJet worked great during 2 years then began to show a toner density problem: black, yellow and cyan print perfectly normal on the entire page, and magenta looks quite good in the middle of the page, yet very pale when closer to the left or right margin. I purchased a new magenta toner cartridge - same issue. I regularly use the calibrating and cleaning functions, and tried a factory reset. Still the same... Did somebody encounter this issue - any clue how to fix it?

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for your prompt and efficient reply. The process was not as fast and as easy as I would have liked (the last 3 screws were so tight that I had to take an extractor and destroy them) but it is documented to perfection and the result is there: Now magenta prints normally dense again... until the next time of course!

Do you know if other Laser printers show similar issues and need such "intensive care"?

Thanks again!

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Very common for this series. Magenta sits on the bottom and the toner tends to adhere to the scanner mirror. Most other color lasers use shutters with open and close with the front cover or the toners perform a better seal with the laser/scanner opening which prevents the contamination seen on the 2600 series.

Thanks, this is good to know. Next time I shop for a printer, I will still consider color

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

I was having the same problems. I found the instructions and took my printer apart and cleaned it. The magenta is printing better, but now all 4 colors are printing very light. I have gone into the tool box and darkened the all up to the max, but it is still printing way to light. Any ideas?

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

I followed the directions and my magenta problem is fixed, but now the right side of the page is faded out.

Any thoughts?

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Abbie: Sometimes happens. You have to be very thorough when you clean the lens and mirrors otherwise you have to do the precedure again. Bit of a pain because it takes a bit to access it all. Much easier the second time round.

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Much easy if you remove 4 toner cartridges from front and clean lense from front.

Super fast and easy to clean.

Hi, same problem! Interested in attacking from the front. Could you please supply more info after moving 4 cartridges.

Many thanks

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

Cleaning from the front does not work.  It only gets the outside of the lens where 99% of the time the toner causing the issue is on the inside of the laser/scanner assembly.  To try just remove the toner cartridges and the 4 clear plastic pieces in the back on the lens.  Use a qtip to clean them and when that does not work follow the instructions above.

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

People, this is great!

I was Stubbeling with this issue for a year now.

Followed all the steps as mentioned and the printer is working like new.

Simply Brilliant!

In Dutch.

Dit is de perfecte oplossing voor het probleem van het vervagen van Magneta oftewel de rode kleur.

Alle stappen netje doorlopen (Ja alle genoemde stekkertjes moeten echt los) .

De printer werkt nu weer als een nieuwe! Dit scheeld ook weer veel rep. Kosten!

Re: Color LaserJet 2600n - Magenta density issue

I understand that cleaning from the front may be ineffective, but I would like to try it before I embark upon dismantling the printer.  One thing I am not certain about is the clear plastic pieces you reference that should be removed.  I cannot find a good diagram to locate the exact parts.  Could you advise?  Many thanks for posting the detailed procedures.  I had many trips back and forth to OfficeMax with toner cartridges, thinking that was the cause.

never rely on big box salesmen or customer service to advise (they are strictly sales). Occashionally i have found good advise on this sight, and if you are so inclined and want to learn about your own machines (aka device), dive it. There are lots of manuals, free on the web to guide you.
