Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

sounds like a machine issue then.one thing to check is the carousel alignment like is shown in this pic.if it gets out of alignment it can cause issues.if you press the rotate carousel button,do the cartridges stop in the proper postion so as they can be taken out?

Yes, I can take off each cartridge when I use the carousel button. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

Today, October 17 I noticed the exact same problem with my 2550n on a Mac network. I could remove the toner cartridges, but find I cannot replace them, only two are aligned in the carousel, and two will not align and cannot be replaced. Turning printer off/on, pressing the toner cycling button etc, nothing works.
I wonder if there is some kind of date-awareness problem associated with the printer rom.
Will download and re-install software and advise if that solves the problem. If not, have to wait for HP to come available monday morning.

Richard you carousel is out of index/alignment. See the instructions contained in the thread at the link below:

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

instructions on unlocking the black gears does not seem to apply to the 2550. I see a plastic flap, but it will not move. Perhaps the problem is I cannot remove the printer covers. Can you kindly provide more info?

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

If the alignment is ok then the issue is the selenoid that stops the carousel at each color. It is probably sticking so you have to remove it and remove the sticky material and put some form of felt in place of the material that was there and has rubbed off enough to cause the clue that adhered it to move to the 'L" arm. You have to have some form of material or the "L" arm becomes magnetized and does not go down when it is supposed to.

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

I had the same problem. Checked the alignment and it was intact. Tried rotating the carousel and discovered that almost 3 cartridges were not stopping at the correct position. Removed the solenoid assembly and manually tested it only to discover that it was sticking. Replaced the solenoid assy from another machine and it did the magic. Now my printer is as good as ever

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

Had the same issue of only printing yellow. Checked the carousel and one of the cartridges was somewhat misaligned but after taking it apart the gears for the carousel were aligned properly. So I checked the solenoid and it was sticking and the foam material they used was worn down. So I fixed it by putting a piece of moleskin over what was left of the foam material they used.

Re: Color LJ 2550L print only in yellow

[ Edited ]

I had the same problem of only printing in yellow. I got to the solenoid and this was the first time I ever saw one, but it looked brand new to me and the felt looked fine. I scraped it off anyways and put a new felt that was a tiny bit thicker. Bingo it worked. I also found this youtube video very helpful in figuring out what the solenoid looked like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BoxmagIjhg

And also here is another video which although is for a different printer, explains what is happening and why very well:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtJbJw6m34I

Even though mine looked fine, it was sticking.
